The 2024 Silverado 1500 and the 2024 Ram 1500: Which Pickup Is for You?

If you are in the market for a truck, then you might realize that deciding between makes and models is one of the toughest parts. With so many excellent automotive manufacturers producing just as superior options, comparing and contrasting seems to be the only surefire way to narrow down your choices. For instance, consider finding a fantastic Chevy Silverado for sale and then discovering a Ram that seems to have very similar features. Other than making your decision based on brand loyalty, what are you to do?

The 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 and the 2024 Ram 1500 are both stellar truck options with a range of trims to choose from. The Chevy offers nine distinct trims, from entry-level to luxury to off-road. On the other hand, the Ram offers a similar selection that includes entry to top-tier to ruggedly capable. The Ram, however, only offers eight trims, which is far from a deal breaker but limits your options slightly more than the Chevy. With that being said, let’s dive into the real meat and potatoes of these two heavy hitters.

The Chevy Silverado 1500 Offers More Engine Options, and More Capability

One of the very first things most prospective truck owners want to know is, what’s under the hood? Well, both the Chevy and the Ram offer an array of engine options ranging in power and performance, with the Chevy’s lineup consisting of four engines and the Ram’s consisting of three. Both offer some form of V8, which is something that will definitely catch the eye of those craving performance and capability.

Chevy has been working on a rebranding, labeling their High-Output engine the TurboMax. The TurboMax produces 310 hp and a brutish 430 lb-ft of torque. The TurboMax comes standard on a majority of the trims for power you can count on. Two of the remaining trims that don’t come standard with the TurboMax benefit from the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 engine. This engine is a V8 that produces 355 horses and 383 lb-ft of torque for an oomph that will get you going.

For the final trim, which is the ZR2, the standard engine in the Duramax Turbo-Diesel 3.0-liter engine. Thanks to its unique design, the Duramax produces a whopping 495 lb-ft of torque and 305 hp. Towing is a breeze with such power, making this engine a game-changer. The last engine option is available on select trims and is another V8. The 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 offers 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque for the hardworking companion you need.

Switching gears to the Ram 1500, the first engine up is the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with eTorque. HEMI sounds rather impressive, and it is paired with a mid-hybrid system. Producing 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque, the HEMI V8 is a strong option for the Ram. Another HEMI in the Ram’s engine lineup is the Supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8, which is only available on the special edition TRX model, which has been produced in limited quantities, so getting your hands on this power might be near impossible.

The third engine option for the Ram is the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with eTorque. This engine option produces 305 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. Considering both horsepower and torque, the Pentastar V6 comes in quite a bit lower than pretty much any of the Chevy options, which is unfortunate. Another unfortunate factor is that if towing is on the agenda, the Ram doesn’t quite hold a candle to the Silverado, with even the Supercharged HEMI falling below the Silverado’s highest towing max. When properly equipped, the Silverado 1500 can tow up to 13,300 lbs, compared to the Ram 1500’s 12,750 lbs.

Who Offers the Best Tech?

The next thing someone might wonder about is the truck’s technology options, including infotainment, convenience, and even safety. Technology plays such an important role in the development of vehicles and what they offer that it would be impossible not to discuss it when comparing the Chevy and the Ram. It all starts with the truck’s infotainment screen. This is where you access a majority of the tech available, even safety features.

For the Ram, there are a variety of infotainment screen options. The entry-level trim starts with a 5-inch display that offers AM/FM radio, Hands-Free Profile Streaming Audio, Voice Command, Hands-Free Calling, and Voice Text Reply. Unfortunately, this is pretty measly and not an offering that would be expected on a truck starting at just over $40K. Now you have the option to upgrade to the 8.4-inch display, but that only adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which are basically standard on most other vehicles.

Moving up a few trims, the Ram begins to offer the 8.4-inch screen as standard and throws in built-in navigation, which is nice. Unfortunately, it takes a few more steps again before the 12-inch even shows its face as standard. Although there are some nice features, they don’t hold up against the infotainment display of the Chevy Silverado.

The Chevy is introduced with a 7-inch display, immediately offering an increased size over the Ram. The Chevy’s most impressive aspect is the standard features across the board, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. From here, it only takes a few trims before the 13.4-inch display becomes standard. The larger display also introduces Google Built-in, another unique addition.

Unfortunately for the Ram, the Chevy truly shines bright in the area of safety. Fortunately for you, the Chevy shines bright in the area of safety. Where the Ram offers a backup camera, and Hill Start Assist with a random program on top-tier trims, the Chevy Silverado offers a full suite from the start. Everything from Forward Collision Alert to Chevy’s unique Teen Driver technology comes standard from the base Work Truck and up. The 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 Reigns Supreme Over Its Full-Size Competitors

It’s always tough pitting one great brand against another, but in reality, there are times when it has to be done to come out with the best option for you. With so many great truck options out there, sometimes it’s the smallest thing that tips the scales. For the Chevy and the Ram, there seems to be more than a few small things that tip the scales in favor of the Chevy Silverado.

With more trim options to choose from, the Chevy already begins to pull ahead. Once we consider the engine options available, this is where the Chevy really takes the lead. Although the Chevy has four and the Ram three, one of the Ram’s options is only available on a special edition that was produced in a limited run. With that in mind, the Ram only has two engine options to the Chevy’s four. With more engine options, the Chevy offers a wider range of power and torque to address a wider range of needs.

Beyond the performance features, the Chevy clearly provides a better infotainment offering, with more from the start and more near the end. Considering that practically everyone has a phone these days, a phone they depend on, staying connected is incredibly important. The Chevy does a great job of doing this with features like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Although the Ram 1500 is a notable option, it unfortunately is not quite as excellent as the American classic-made Chevy Silverado.
