By booking through Horse Farm Tours, you can get an up-close look at amazing thoroughbred farms in Lexington, “The horse capital of the world.” On these three-hour-long experiences, you’ll get to visit the historic Keeneland Race Course, tour two Kentucky horse farms, and drive by Calumet Farm. In the spring, you might even get to see broodmares and their newborn foals.

Location: Tours start from Embassy Suites at Exit 115 on I-75. The address is 1801 Newtown Pike in Lexington. However, the organization picks up people from a variety of hotels at exits 110 through 115 on I-75.

Hours: Tours are provided every day, year-round, with the exception of certain holidays. The morning tour happens from 8:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and the afternoon tour occurs from 12:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Prices: Tours are $40 for adults, $38 for seniors, and $29 for children younger than 12. During the off-season from Nov. 1 through March 31, tickets are $40 for all ages. During Kentucky Derby week, tickets are $45 for all ages.

Kentucky Derby Museum

To take a trip to the past, head on down to the Kentucky Derby Museum in Louisville, about an hour away from Georgetown. At this institution, you’ll get to peruse artifacts, photography, and narratives to learn all about how the Kentucky Derby became the beloved event that it is. Make sure to check out the fun and V.I.P. experiences available. For example, in “Biscuits & Bourbon,” guests get a Southern-style brunch with live music and unlimited Kentucky bourbon and other drinks. From Dec. 1 to Feb. 28, museum and store hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The museum is closed Thursday through Saturday of Derby weekend, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Prices: General admission tickets are $17 for adults, $15 for seniors aged 65 years and older, $11 for children aged 5 years and younger, and free for children younger than 5. Discounts are available for active and retired military members with ID and track employees with racing ID.

Kentucky Horse Park

Hours: In the spring season from April 6 to May 15, the park is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, and hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Hours vary based on the season.

Prices: General admission varies based on the season. In the summer, it’s $20 for those ages 13 to 61, $18 for those age 62 and older, $10 for those ages 6 to 12, free for children age 5 and younger, and $10 for active-duty military members and veterans with ID. Daily parking is $5.
