Buick History

Officially incorporated in 1903, Buick can actually trace its history back to the final years of the 1800s, when David Buick began building gasoline engines. However, while David Buick was an excellent engineer, he was not as successful at running a company, leading to the 1904 sale of Buick to William Durant. Although Durant was not an engineer and had no experience with automobiles, he was an excellent businessman and soon transformed Buick into the largest automobile manufacturer in America. And when Durant founded GM in 1908, it was Buick that provided the foundation that his automotive empire was built upon.

As more companies were brought under the GM banner, Buick moved on from its former position as a high volume manufacturer and began focusing more on producing the high-quality, luxurious vehicles that had made its name. It even built cars for racing and endurance competitions, with many successful finishes demonstrating the superiority of Buick’s car and engine designs. Buick even went international and racked up many notable achievements. In 1914, a Buick became the first car to travel across South America and climb the Andes, and in 1925, a Buick was even driven around the world with stops in Europe, the Middle East, India, and Australia.

Buick’s engineering expertise even became a vital part of the Allied victory in World War II as the car company retooled its factories to produce thousands of armored vehicles and high-performance aircraft engines. But after the war, Buick returned to building its luxurious automobiles, and models such as the Buick Super and Buick Roadmaster achieved fame during the 1940s and 1950s as comfortable and reliable cars for discerning drivers. Since those days, Buick has continued to produce some of the best all-around vehicles on the market. With their upscale styling, reliable engineering, and high value, there is little surprise the Buick remains a prestigious brand around the world.

Buick Lineup

Today, Buick continues to build upon its legacy of high-quality vehicles with a lineup of luxurious cars and SUVs. All of its current models offer the reliability and comfort expected of the Buick name. However, for the ultimate Buick experience, consider the brand’s top of the line Avenir models. The styling and material quality in the Avenir vehicles is a true step above even what you would expect from a Buick.

If you regularly find yourself driving on back roads or through bad weather, then Buick’s SUV lineup is the clear choice. At the bottom, you will find the popular Buick Encore and the brand new Buick Encore GX. While they may share the same name, these two compact SUVs actually have little in common. The Buick Encore is more efficient and agile, while the slightly larger Buick Encore GX offers some additional power and room. However, both of these small SUVs are a great choice for a commuter or city driver who wants a little more versatility and performance than a traditional small car can offer.

At the top of Buick’s SUV selection are the Buick Envision and Buick Enclave. While these two SUVs share many of their features and provide a similar level of luxury, they differ in size. The Buick Envision is a compact two-row SUV that can seat five, while the significantly larger mid-size Buick Enclave has three rows of seats for up to seven passengers. Both of these Buick models make for excellent family vehicles and provide a high level of comfort for the rear seat passengers as well as the driver and front passengers.
