If you're interested in a Chevy truck, chances are you recognize the deep history of the brand, one that spans the course of over a century. It all began with the One-Ton, the automaker's very first truck, which debuted in 1918. With a design based on some of the vehicles and equipment found in the Chevrolet factory, the One-Ton featured an open body style to provide buyers with the chance to outfit this truck how they saw fit for their individual needs. And although there was competition from some of the other prominent automakers of the era, you couldn't miss the Chevrolet bowtie emblem as this fine vehicle made its way toward you on the streets.
It wouldn't be until 1929 that Chevy unveiled a truck with a completely enclosed cab, much like all of the offerings we see today. With increased comfort at the forefront of its mission, Chevy quickly pivoted from its more functional roots to focus on design, debuting a series of available colors as well to give their top trucks even more appeal. As Chevy progressed the Silverado through its second and third generations, the company focused on tweaking its existing line of engines to produce more horsepower and torque while not impacting fuel efficiency. In addition, Chevy moved from a four-speed automatic transmission to an available six-speed, which also enhanced performance and fuel economy. In 2018, the Silverado, when equipped with a 5.3-liter V8 engine, was available with an eight-speed transmission. In 2007, a 6.0-liter V8 engine that produced 367 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque was added to the powertrain lineup, and in 2009 Chevy added a 6.2 liter V8 that offered 403 horsepower and 417 lb-ft of torque.
Chevrolet also put a premium on offering multiple trims, including several special edition models. A highlight was the 2018 Silverado Centennial Edition, celebrating 100 years of Chevy trucks. Based on the LTZ Z71 off-road Silverado, the Centennial comes with special blue metallic exterior paint, Chevy’s 5.3 liter EcoTec3 V8 engine, and an eight-speed transmission. Also included is special door badging with a specially-designed throwback Chevy bowtie logo, massive 22-inch wheels, and LED headlights.
