The 2021 Chevy Tahoe is an impressive, three-row SUV with strong hauling capability and plenty of room for the whole family. For 2021, the Tahoe brings new tech, more space, and an optional diesel engine to kick off the fifth generation of this beloved SUV. For example, to improve handling and ride quality, a brand new rear suspension system has been added.
The 2021 Tahoe comes in six different trim levels, each uniquely styled and equipped to meet your needs. Choose from the LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. Starting at
Three engine options are available on the 2021 Chevy Tahoe; drivers can choose from a 5.3-liter V8, a 6.2-liter V8, or a turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel inline-six engine. The 5.3-liter engine can produce up to 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque; starting this model off with plenty of power to get you where you need to go. The second available engine offers even more power with up to 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. There will be no shortage of power here, and it can even tow up to 8,400 lbs when equipped with this engine and a max towing package. If you are more into a diesel engine, the 3.0-liter Duramax engine produces up to 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.
All three choices are paired with a smooth 10-speed automatic transmission. You may recognize the gas engines from last year's model, but they have undergone a few improvements. Chevy upgraded to a new fuel management system to improve upon these already popular choices.
The 2021 Tahoe’s independent rear suspension system can be paired with Magnetic Ride Control and a first-in-class Four Corner Air Ride Adaptive Suspension. Not only will you get a high-powered and efficient ride, but it’ll also be much smoother than truck-based SUVs from years ago. Acoustic laminated glass also helps to block noise and vibration from the outside, so no matter how bumpy or noisy your commute is, the interior remains a tranquil and calming environment.
The Tahoe is an all-purpose vehicle, and its technology features reflect that. Along with serving as the perfect family SUV, you can essentially handle all of your communication, scheduling, and even entertainment needs on the road if you want to. Designed with safety in mind, the Tahoe lets you take care of business without putting yourself at risk. Starting with the base LS model, a 10.2-inch infotainment touchscreen, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, are included. You’ll get driver assistance aids, like forward collision mitigation, to warn you and apply the brakes as needed without needing to upgrade on add on a pricey package.
The LT adds a wireless charging pad, nine-speaker Bose audio system, hands-free liftgate, and auto-dimming rearview mirror to the mix. Standard technology gets a big boost in the Premier trim with a 10-speaker Bose audio system, an 8-inch digital instrument panel, along with lane keep assist and a blind spot monitor.
As expected, the High Country doesn’t disappoint. A 15-inch diagonal color head-up display helps keep your eyes on the road as you take phone calls, access safety alerts, and follow turn-by-turn directions. A rear pedestrian alert system helps you avoid dangerous accidents, and the surround-view parking camera system gives you a full view around your pick-up, so you can park it safely wherever you go.
The 2021 Tahoe is 6.7 inches longer than it used to be with a modernized redesign. Exterior color choices include graywood metallic, iridescent pearl tricoat, satin steel metallic, summit white, black, shadow gray metallic, empire beige metallic, midnight blue metallic, and cherry red tintcoat. All trims come with an all-season blackwall spare tire and 17-inch full-size spare steel wheel.
The Tahoe’s exterior is classic across the board, but slight nuances let you choose the options that best reflect your personal style. The base LS has LED headlights and 18-inch wheels as standard. If desired, you can always add the available 20-inch painted aluminum machined face wheels with argent metallic pockets or 22-inch 6-split-spoke chrome wheels, black gloss, midnight silver, or carbon flash metallic. Black assist steps are standard on the LS, body-color door handles, and body-color heated outdoor mirrors and mirror caps. Roof-mounted side rails are brightly colored to stand out and deep-tinted glass helps you maintain a low profile inside.
The same tire upgrades are available for the LT Tahoe. On the driver’s side, auto-dimming outside heated power mirrors are available. Opting for the available LT standard packages adds 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, a panoramic power sunroof, and a max trailering package. Rainsense automatic wipers are standard on the LT and above to maximize visibility without having to juggle a bunch of different controls.
The Z71’s adventurous look includes front skid plates and tow hooks, along with all-terrain tires and a slightly modified front fascia. Black roof-mounted side rails are standard on the Z71 and RST. Front and rear splash guards are available on the RST.
The Premier is a bit more understated with 20-inch blackwall tires and standard 20-inch aluminum polished wheels. Chrome mirror caps and door handles with body-color strips are part of the standard styling. For an added southern flare, style it with Texas Edition details. This classy SUV is chic and timeless. You won’t have to worry about looking dated as you ride out several years of the Tahoe’s longevity.
Both the RST and High Country sit on large 22-inch wheels, with the High Country’s bronze accents and special grille setting it apart as the luxury choice. The High Country is eligible for the Premium Package, adding a slew of interior and technology upgrades along with a panoramic power sunroof, power-retractable assist steps, and premier lighting.
The 2021 Tahoe is bigger than previous versions, meaning it’s got a good amount of storage space in the cabin, totaling 25.5 cubic feet behind the third row and a max of 122.9 cubic feet with second and third row seats folded down. Its power-sliding console also makes interior storage easier, with a large bin under the armrest and lots of flexible space inside.
You’ll have a better view of the 10.2-inch infotainment system in the 2021 model. Instead of being sunken into the dashboard like previous years, the screen is mounted on top, leaving more space for the dashboard’s other buttons and controls. Leather upholstery becomes standard starting with the LT model, as do heated front seats and driver-seat memory settings.
The RSTs seats have their own unique look with special contrast stitching in jet black and victory red perforated leather. Ten-way power driver and front passenger seats are standard (they’re also heated). In the second and third rows, bench seats offer a 60/40 split. Trizone automatic climate control also becomes standard from the RST and above. Many of the same interior features are found in the Z71, although leather-appointed front seats are standard, and you have the option to opt for leather seating and bucket seats in the second row if desired.
The Premier has a slightly lower passenger capacity due to second-row bucket seats, but you can still fit seven people with comfort and ease. In the Premier, both front seats are heated and ventilated. You’ll also get a heated steering wheel and heated second-row outboard seats. The High Country is similar inside with a standard safety alert seat and many available upgrades to customize your SUV just the way you want.
