Chevy Electric Vehicles

Reliable, environmentally friendly, and efficient are only a few perks of owning an electric vehicle. Those perks extend even further with Chevy electric vehicles like the Bolt EV and the highly anticipated Bolt EUV. But what makes electric vehicles so attractive to consumers While many opt for electric vehicles for environmental purposes, many others know that electric vehicles also come with another benefit—they can save drivers thousands of dollars each year. Since electric vehicles run on battery, they do not require gasoline, which translates to impressive savings at the gas pump. Add that electric vehicles don’t require the same maintenance routine like oil changes or timing belts, and the savings easily soar to over $1,500 annually.

Chevrolet’s lineup of electric vehicles certainly fits this bill and offers a variety of other benefits like instant torque thanks to the electric engine that delivers responsive acceleration and smooth handling. But what else makes Chevrolet’s fleet of electric vehicles a must-have for drivers looking for a gasoline-guzzling alternative? Here’s a look at why now is the time to buy an electric vehicle.

Find Your Chevy EV Today

The time to buy an electric vehicle is now. Why? Because the future is electric, and Chevrolet knows it. That’s why the manufacturer has a lot in its pipeline over the next few years, like the all-new Bolt EUV, which is set to make history as the first Chevy SUV to offer true hands-free driver assistance technology known as Super Cruise. But why is there such an urgency to transition to electric vehicles?

Most people won’t turn down the chance to save a few extra dollars, but what if we told you that you could potentially save thousands of dollars each year by making one change in your lifestyle? Give up your gasoline or diesel-powered vehicle for a more environmentally friendly option—an electric vehicle. Would the decision be easy?

Electric vehicles are rising in popularity as consumers look to save more money to offset the increasing cost of living, which includes the rising cost of fuel. By opting for an electric vehicle, consumers are paying more for the vehicle upfront, but they’re reaping the benefits long-term. For example, the 2021 Bolt EV starts at $36,500 and offers a 259-mile range on a fully charged battery. If your commute to work is 30 miles roundtrip, you can drive to work for an entire week on a single charge.

Manufacturers like Chevrolet see the trend as the International Energy Agency reported record sales of electric vehicles over the last few years. This increase generated even more fast-charging stations around the country and inspired many consumers to install home-based charging stations. So, what’s the catch? Instead of spending a small fortune at the gas station, drivers with a DC Fast Charging system on their Chevrolet EV can charge their battery to a 100-mile range in just 30 minutes. That’s the equivalent of a lunch break or watching your favorite sitcom!

Electric vehicles offer a plethora of other incentives beyond financial savings. Drivers who are interested in combating climate change feel like they’re doing their part to reduce their carbon footprint by driving a vehicle that doesn’t rely on fossil fuel. Additionally, EVs have proven their reliability as well as their innovation with models packed with the latest technology. This technology includes one pedal driving, which allows drivers to accelerate, decelerate, and stop the vehicle using only the accelerator pedal.

Additional features include:

  • High-definition rear vision cameras
  • Rear camera mirrors
  • Driver-assistance options like forward collision alert
  • Smartphone apps that deliver real-time diagnostics and data like battery life at the touch of a button

2022 Chevy Bolt EV

It’s easy to see why Chevy electric vehicles are impressive, and with the launch of the redesigned 2022 Chevy Bolt EV and the all-new 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV, it gets even better. The overall goal with the 2022 Chevy electric vehicles is to make them more practical for the busy driver and family. Switching to an electric vehicle makes sense financially and for the environment, and now you get to enjoy the same convenience you expect from any Chevy, plus some advanced technology. It’s remarkable what these two electric vehicles can do.

Chevy released a variety of exciting new features with the 2022 Chevy Bolt EV. Quite notably is its redesign from front to back. The 2022 Bolt EV’s exterior has a more sporty look and feel, along with new rear and front lighting systems. This updated design mirrors some of the distinguishing features in the Chevy SUV lineup. The purpose is to make the Bolt EV more engaging and even more practical for a new electric car owner. The 2022 Bolt EV can fit five passengers more comfortably as well. Each of these practical features helps make the transition to electric driving much smoother.

One of the major changes for the 2022 Chevy Bolt EV is the starting cost. The 2022 Bolt EV actually has a much lower MSRP than the 2021 Bolt EV. This is good news to those who want to switch to an electric vehicle but need to ensure it makes sense for their budget. The 2022 Chevy Bolt has a starting price of $31,995 and still comes with many standard features. After the price, the next most important number for an electric vehicle is the mileage range. You need to have confidence your electric vehicle can take you far, and Chevy delivers on this as well! The 2022 Bolt EV has an estimated range of 259 miles. No matter if you’re traveling in town or heading on a road trip, the Bolt EV has an impressive range. So what happens when you do need a recharge? Chevy has revamped the charging process for both home and public charging.

Chevy has gone to great lengths to ensure electric car drivers can effectively charge their Bolt EV quickly wherever they are. With the new Dual Level Charge Cord available for the 2022 Bolt EV, owners have the ability to charge at their homes without extra equipment. Level 1 charging uses a simple household 120V three-prong outlet, and Level 2 charging uses a 240V three-prong outlet. Public charging is also seeing an upgrade as well. You can use your myChevrolet app to locate one of the 80,000 on-the-go chargers in North America. General Motors also has plans to rapidly expand the number of public chargers in the next several years as the demand for electric vehicles is consistently growing.

There are ways to extend the energy in your Bolt EV so you can spend less time charging. Using Regen on Demand, which is a simple paddle on the steering wheel, you can convert kinetic energy into energy stored in the battery to use in the future. One pedal driving allows you to accelerate and slow down by only using the accelerator pedal. Finding ways to conserve energy will save you time and give you maximum usage out of your Bolt EV.

The 2022 Chevy Bolt EV also has available technology and safety features that you would expect from every other Chevy vehicle. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are new for 2022 and are standard in the 2022 Bolt EV. There is also an available wireless phone charging technology and 4G LTE WiFi capability. To keep track of all the necessary vehicle information, the 2022 Bolt EV has a Driver Information Center that gives you battery information and other stats to maximize energy.

Quite notably on the 2022 Chevy Bolt EV is the standard Chevy Safety Assist. This suite of safety features is becoming standard on more Chevy vehicles, and it’s an exciting addition to the Bolt EV. Standard safety features include Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, a Following Distance Indicator, Intellibeam high beams assist, Front Pedestrian Braking, and Front Collision Warning. You can now drive confident that you have the same safety features that are featured in other prominent Chevy vehicles. Having this extra layer of protection works beautifully with safe driving skills.

2022 Chevy Bolt EUV

With much anticipation, Chevy released the brand-new 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV as the second electric vehicle in its lineup. This model will truly revolutionize the way we drive in the future. Some of the notable differences from the Bolt EV are the size and Super Cruise technology. Starting with size, the Bolt EUV is about six inches longer than the Bolt EV and has more SUV features. For those people who demand a larger vehicle, you now have a practical and efficient electric vehicle option. But undoubtedly, the most talked about feature of the Bolt EUV is Super Cruise, which takes technology to the next level.

Super Cruise is the first hands-free driver assistance technology. Now, on compatible roads, you can use hands-free driving thanks to technology like LiDAR mapping. There are already over 200,000 miles of compatible miles in the United States and Canada, making this technology something you could actually use on a daily basis. This does not replace the driver’s attention, though. Chevy has equipped the Bolt EUV with technology that monitors the driver’s attention on the road when using Super Cruise. The Driver Attention System will alert the driver to regain control of the steering wheel if it senses, using a camera, that your eyes are off the road. This is just one of the many ways the 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV uses technology and safety together.

The 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV has a starting price of $33,995, making it attainable for the budget-friendly vehicle owner. With an estimated range of 250 miles, the Bolt EUV is certainly an electric vehicle that can fit into your daily life. The same Dual Level Charging cord that’s available on the Bolt EV comes standard for the Bolt EUV. The Bolt EUV also comes equipped with the same energy-saving features like one-pedal driving and Regen on Demand.

Additional technology and features are also offered on the 2022 Bolt EUV, like available heated and ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, rear camera mirror, and sport mode. All of the technology offered on the Bolt EV like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, wireless charging, WiFi capability, and the Driver Information Center is also found on the Bolt EUV. Chevy Safety Assist is standard on the Bolt EUV, with options for more advanced features like Rear Cross Traffic Alert and HD surround vision. Overall, the 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV gives you all the benefits and convenience of a Chevy SUV with the overwhelming benefits of an electric vehicle.

Electric vehicles have certainly gained traction in recent years as they have become more practical for the average driver. Chevy’s new 2022 Bolt EV and Bolt EUV make electric driving even more attainable without sacrificing the most beloved features of a Chevy vehicle. The range and charging capabilities will fit seamlessly into your busy life and will ultimately save you time and money. Chevy’s Bolt EUV further features the innovative Super Cruise technology that makes that long commute or boring road trip something quite thrilling.

Financing an Electric Vehicle

Even with all the bells and whistles, EVs are affordably priced and easy to finance at your local dealer. Our team here at Dan Cummins Chevrolet Buick of Georgetown can certainly help with the process as well as provide information about the various incentives available for customers purchasing an electric vehicle. What do we mean?

Customers who purchase rather than lease an electric vehicle may be eligible for a tax credit in their state. Since leasing a vehicle technically means that the dealership or leasing company still owns the vehicle, the tax credit doesn’t go to the driver but to the dealership or company. However, when the driver purchases a new electric vehicle, they may qualify for a federal tax credit anywhere between $2,500 and $7,500, depending on the size of the vehicle and the battery capacity.

To learn more about financing an electric vehicle and the tax credit, stop by the dealership and ask one of our team members to guide you through the process. We are happy to explain the finance process as well as how to claim your electric vehicle tax credit on your federal tax return. Be sure to also ask us about earning utility incentives by installing a home charger.

Servicing an Electric Vehicle

Our team is thrilled to help you find the right electric vehicle for your needs, but we’re also proud to service your electric vehicle. That’s one of the biggest selling points for many customers—the fact that electric vehicles don’t require the usual engine maintenance like oil changes, engine belt replacements, etc. This translates to even more savings and money in your pocket!

While electric vehicles typically cost more on the front end, they require less maintenance than gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles. This means that they end up costing less to own over time. For example, an electric vehicle has fewer moving parts under the hood. The battery, motor, and electronics do not require regular maintenance, nor are there as many fluids (like engine oil) required to run the engine. This means that electric vehicles require very little maintenance, which translates to huge savings considering that standard oil changes can average between $50 and $100.

One of the key components to servicing an electric vehicle is maintaining the battery. The battery in an EV has a cycle life, which means there’s a limited number of times the battery can be charged and discharged. When the battery reaches the end of its cycle life, it must be replaced. Manufacturers like Chevrolet offer various warranties to cover battery usage and components. For example, Chevrolet offers Bumper-to-Bumper coverage as well as an 8-year or 100,000-mile component coverage to give drivers additional peace of mind.

A New Age For Electric Vehicles

The EV revolution is in high gear at Chevrolet headquarters, and the big winner is the full-size pickup truck buyer. Specifically, longtime Chevy Silverado fans are buzzing about the upcoming 2023 Chevy Silverado EV. For the first time in history, Chevy plans to electrify one of America's favorite full-size pickup trucks, giving drivers a zero-emissions option with all the same rugged capability and performance Silverado buyers have come to expect.

Details are still emerging, but we know the 2023 Chevy Silverado continues Chevrolet's march to a fully electric lineup. The company has pledged to continue investing in battery technology and upgrading facilities to meet demand, as well as work with cities and the federal government to grow the nation's infrastructure of charging stations. Someday, there will be a charging station on every block, much like there is now a gas station.

It's time to get excited about EV technology. Today's EVs are reimagined, with extended driving ranges, fast-charging capability, and unbelievable next-generation technology that adds features like hands-free cruise control and semi-autonomous driving that were unimaginable just a decade ago. What else is coming our way? The reimagined, all-new 2023 Chevy Silverado EV.

Silverado History

The full-size Chevy Silverado enjoys a long history of rugged, durable engineering and pickup truck style. There is a legion of satisfied owners who report they'd never buy another pickup truck brand. That loyalty is the cornerstone of the Silverado's promise: consistent, class-leading capability, value, and quality. We all know a "Chevy guy," right? These diehard fans know that Chevy trucks are the toughest in the segment.

Chevy's pickup truck history dates way back to 1918. Fast forward fifty years, and the C/K name was introduced with an inline six-cylinder engine producing 153 horsepower and a now-iconic design that was boxy and utilitarian. In 1988, the C/K 1500 was born. Considered the fourth generation of the C/K series, this truck started at a whopping $12,747 and offered customers a shift-on-the-fly 4x4 transfer case.

The Silverado name was first introduced as an upscale trim of the C/K but eventually became its own model in the 1999 model year, when Chevy discontinued the C/K series. That first generation of Silverado trucks lasted through 2006. It started with just regular cab and extended cab body styles, then evolved to add a crew cab option. The Vortex V8 engine was part of the first generation powertrain lineup.

The second generation Silverado (2007 - 2014) included a complete redesign on both the exterior and interior. Engine power increased, and the focus was on improving aerodynamics and fuel economy. The second-generation Silverado received the coveted North American Truck of the Year Award, as well as Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the Year honors. Chevrolet introduced a hybrid model in the 2009 model year, but it was before its time, and slow sales showed that the market wasn't quite ready for alternative power.

The third generation Silverado lineup (2014 - 2019) saw huge technological advances, including smartphone integration and standard OnStar connected services capabilities. Chevy's MyLink touchscreens also made their debut, and a powerful Bose audio system became an optional luxury interior upgrade. Driver-assist technology was another step forward, with features like forward collision alert enhancing the overall safety of Chevy's full-size Silverado.

Emissions Reduction is Chevy's Goal

One trend that has consistently emerged over the years of building full-size pickups is Chevrolet's commitment to improving fuel efficiency and reducing emissions. We all know that greenhouse gases are detrimental to the environment, and while transportation is only one sector contributing to climate change, it's a large one. Chevy's commitment to continued emissions reduction has led to its aggressive EV strategy.

The ongoing commitment to social responsibility is pushed along even more urgently because global governments continue tightening emissions standards, requiring automakers to improve fuel economy and adopt alternative energy sources. The cleanest energy source of all is electricity, and as Chevy makes EVs a core component of its lineup, the company will also support efforts to build solar-powered charging stations for a fully zero-emissions supply chain.

This corporate electrification strategy adopts surprisingly short timelines with the ultimate goal of reaching zero emissions company-wide, including at factories and other manufacturing facilities, by 2040. A big first step is refreshing the current lineup with all-electric vehicles. Following the exciting 2022 Bolt EV and Bolt EUV announcement, Chevy recently confirmed that a Silverado EV was in the works and scheduled for a 2023 or 2024 launch. Overall, GM hopes to sell over 1 million electric vehicles by 2035.

Chevy's Bold EV Strategy

Chevrolet has embarked on an aggressive electrification strategy designed to move toward an all-electric fleet in the not-too-distant future. Using the company's advanced Ultium battery technology, brands like Chevrolet are able to stack battery cells, effectively increasing power and capability without adding extra bulk.

The Ultium battery cell technology continues to evolve and present opportunities for savings on raw materials and manufacturing, which means consumers will continue seeing EV prices go down while performance simultaneously increases. GM knows that in order to achieve mass-market appeal, EVs need to perform the same or better than traditional gas-powered vehicles. They also have to come with affordable price tags.

Concentrating on the most popular models - like the Silverado - is Chevy's next move in the EV chess game. Buyers looking for electric alternatives to their favorite brands can rest assured that Chevy will be combing through its entire lineup of cars, trucks, and SUVs to find ways to bring forth alternative fuel options as part of its massive global effort to achieve zero emissions and combat the effects of climate change.

EV sales continue to rise in America, aided by automakers' focus on increasing driving range and helping build out the country's network of available charging stations. The goal is to make owning an EV as convenient - or more convenient - than owning a gas-powered vehicle. Imagine driving a car with no combustion engine, passing by every gas station, and never again needing an oil change!

The All-New 2023 Silverado EV

Details are still emerging about the exciting and highly anticipated launch of the 2023 Chevy Silverado EV, but we do know that it will include an entirely new ground-up design that is focused on engineering components unique to EVs. GM estimates the Silverado EV will achieve a driving range of greater than 400 miles on a full charge, which is excellent news for commuters and weekend road trippers.

Chevy also expects a high level of interest in the Silverado EV, with a goal of manufacturing nearly 38,000 trucks beginning in 2023. The Silverado EV will be built in General Motors' Factory Zero facility, a manufacturing plant dedicated solely to building EVs and the Ultium batteries that power them. There's no word on price yet, but insiders estimate the starting MSRP will be comparable to the price of the current gas-powered Silverado.

According to GM President Mark Reuss, the new 2023 Silverado EV will be available in multiple trims with a variety of add-ons and options, so buyers can custom tailor their truck to meet a range of needs. Because the upcoming Silverado EV will likely share components with the newly released GMC Hummer EV, we expect the torque and horsepower ranges will be more than sufficient to power all the usual light duty pickup activities.

Other than some shared parts, the Silverado EV is planned to be an extension of the classic full-size Silverado lineup. Chevy is betting big that buyers will flock to this newest EV offering. Customers looking for the instant torque only found on electric vehicles, plus the hefty towing and payload capabilities expected of the Silverado name, won't be disappointed by the specs on the 2023 Silverado EV.
