The most popular vehicle class on the roads today is the compact crossover. Ideal for small families and people who just want a little more room than a sedan, these pint-sized SUVs have exploded in popularity all across the United States. However, not all compact crossovers are created equal. The new 2020 Buick Encore GX is a stylish, sporty model with plenty of luxurious comfort features that make it fun to drive, redefining what it means to be a compact crossover.
With available seating for up to five people, the 2020 Buick Encore GX has plenty of cargo room for anything you need to tote around. Behind the back row of seating is 23.5 cubic feet of space. You can store groceries, backpacks, luggage, or sports equipment in this space with no problem. If that isn’t enough room for your cargo needs, then you can easily fold down the second row to expand the cargo area to 50.2 cubic feet. If you need to bring home a new piece of furniture, opening up the maximum cargo area is the best way to go.
When it comes to luxury and athleticism, the new 2020 Buick Encore GX does it better than any other vehicle in its class. Let’s dive in deeper to learn about the other amazing aspects of this high-class model.
If you were ever taught to not judge a book by its cover, toss that out the window when it comes to the 2020 Buick Encore GX. This stunning model is every bit as wonderful to drive as it is to look at. The exterior styling elements on this vehicle are both aesthetically pleasing and practical.
Exterior features will vary depending on the trim level, but the base model starts off on 18-inch aluminum wheels. That’s right! There are no alloy options for even the standard trim level. With the Encore GX, you get nothing but the best. Other standard exterior features include rear privacy glass to prevent passersby from peeking inside, automatic headlights for enhanced visibility, and heated side mirrors. These are ideal for the winter months.
The mid-level Select model can be spotted by the roof rails. With these, you can easily travel with oddly shaped items or extra luggage secured to the top of the vehicle. It’s the perfect add-on for family road trips!
Finally, the top-of-the-line Essence model can be recognized due to the addition of LED lighting. Located on the front and back of the Buick Encore GX, these futuristic light bulbs add optimized visibility at night and during inclement weather. You will be able to see clearly, and the drivers of other vehicles will also be able to clearly see you.
As for the pain colors, you will have your choice of nine various hues when you pick your new 2020 Buick Encore GX. These shades include classic colors such as Summit White, White Frost Tricoat, Ebony Twilight Metallic, Satin Steel Metallic, and Chili Red Metallic. Other unique shades include Burnished Bronze Metallic, Black Currant Metallic, Deep Azure Metallic, and Dark Moon Blue Metallic.
As a compact crossover, most people expect the Encore GX to be good on gas. However, they typically don’t expect it to be sporty or capable of higher performance levels. If you are one of these folks, then you are in for a surprise! There are two powertrain options, and both are quite capable of delivering a stellar performance.
The standard powertrain is focused around a turbocharged 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine coupled with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and FWD. This engine produces 137 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque, and the estimated fuel economy is set at 28 MPG combined (26 city/30 highway).
If you would like a bit more power and athleticism, then we urge you to consider the optional 1.3-liter 3-cylinder engine. This turbocharged motor is parked with a 9-speed automatic transmission or CVT and FWD. It generates 155 hp and 174 lb-ft of torque, and it gets an estimated 31 MPG combined (30 city/32 highway).
Now that we’ve come to the topic of trim levels, we should start by saying this. The 2020 Buick Encore GX has a base model, but it is anything but basic. Every trim comes standard with some incredible features that you won’t find on other competing vehicles. Let’s take a closer look!
The base trim is known as the Preferred model. It starts things off with some basic comfort features like air conditioning, 60/40 split-folding back seats, a fold-flat front passenger seat, and keyless ignition/entry. Your comfort and convenience are always top priorities with Buick. Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking and cruise control. When an obstacle is detected, and no action is taken on the driver’s part to avoid hitting that obstacle, the emergency braking system will be triggered. It will immediately stop the vehicle to avoid a fender bender. Meanwhile, you can relax for a while whenever you set the cruise control option. This system will maintain your desired speed to give your foot a rest. It’s ideal for long road trips and long commutes.
As for the infotainment interface, it is displayed on an 8-inch touchscreen and operates with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Most competitors do not offer smartphone integration on the base models. However, the engineers at Buick understand the importance of staying connected everywhere you go. That is also why a 4G LTE Wifi hotspot is included. Finally, OnStar telematics provides emergency and vehicle locator services, and dual USB ports allow you to charge more than one smart device at the same time.
If all of those features weren’t enough to satisfy you, then you will be happy to know about all of the extra packages you can add to the new 2020 Buick Encore GX. The base Preferred model can be equipped with the Cold Weather Package. This adds heated seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and remote start technology. The Safety Package can also be added to this trim. It includes rear parking sensors, blindspot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Finally, the last package for the Preferred trim is the Sport Touring Package. It comes with roof rails, remote start technology, and a more athletically-style exterior.
The mid-level Select trim adds quite a few new tech features into the mix. Remote start technology has been added as well as dual-zone climate control. The heated front seats are power-adjustable, and new safety systems have been put in place. These include blindspot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change alert. You won’t have to worry about side-swiping or backing into another vehicle ever again.
The mid-level Select trim can be equipped with the Advanced Technology Package. This adds rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, a 360° parking camera system, and a navigation system. You may also choose to add the Experience Package, which comes with a navigation system, an HD rearview camera, and a sunroof.
Finally, the premium Essence trim level is the cream of the crop. This elegant model comes with a heated steering wheel that has been wrapped in leather. The cabin has also been draped in full leather upholstery, and an air ionizer keeps the interior fresh. Another added feature is an extra 120-volt outlet that has been placed inside the rear center console.
Lastly, the top-of-the-line Essence trim can be fitted with any of the aforementioned packages. Other stand-alone options include a hands-free liftgate and a wireless charging pad. You won’t have to set your groceries on the ground to open the back of the vehicle, and you can keep the cabin clear of cables while charging your smartphone.
