Although the engine in a compact crossover SUV like the 2021 Chevy Trax might not be as important as it is in something like a full-size SUV or a sports car, it is still worth looking at. You want to make sure you choose a model with a powerful enough engine to make it fun to drive and get you where you need to go. The Trax has a singular engine model: a 1.4L Turbo EcoTec 4-cylinder engine that delivers up to 138hp and 148 lb-ft of torque, which comes paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. While that is certainly less powerful than what you will find in some other Chevy SUV models, those larger SUVs and crossovers require more power due to their size and weight.
This is plenty of power for a compact; plus, since there is only one engine available, you do not have to worry about different options or the need to pay more for the performance you require. It could not be simpler, and you still have the choice of all-wheel drive if the standard front-wheel drive configuration is not ideal for your driving experiences. The smaller size of the 2021 Trax and its sporty engine also provides you with an excellent fuel economy. You get an estimated 26 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway with the Trax, which means you can run a lot of errands, head out to your favorite campground, or even hit the road on a long trip and not have to make many stops to refill.

On top of that, you have 57 inches of usable length behind the front seats with the rear seats down, letting you fit even large objects comfortably into the Trax. If you need to load up with a particularly long piece of furniture or something like a kayak, then you can lower the front passenger seat for 8 feet of total cargo length inside the Trax.
There are two different trim levels available for the 2021 Chevy Trax, which gives you the freedom to get just the right overall set up with everything you are looking for. Both trims come with the same engine and have front-wheel drive, with similar mechanical features and options overall. The standard LS trim is a great option for a lot of people, while the available LT trim gives you more included and available features.
If you choose the standard LS trim for the Trax, then you get an infotainment system with a 7-inch display, Bluetooth support and voice commands to phones, and support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The LS has a 6-speaker audio system, dual USB ports, a 12V power outlet, and cloth seating. You get a 4-way manual driver seat, 2-way manual front passenger seat, adjustable front headrests, and a standard steering wheel with mounted controls. The LS also features a 3-inch driver information center, remote keyless entry, and single-zone manual climate control.
On the other hand, if you choose the LT trim, then you get everything in the LS trim, along with more features like a 120V power outlet and available 6-way power driver seat. The LT trim also features cruise control, deluxe cloth seating with leatherette trim, and an available driver confidence package with additional safety features. Heated front seats are available with the LT trim, along with keyless open and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, while remote start is standard.
Standard safety features on the 2021 Chevy Trax include 10 airbags, daytime running lamps, and a rear vision camera. Every model also includes StabiliTrak electronic stability and traction control, a tire pressure monitoring system, and rear child security door locks. There are also a number of excellent safety features available on the LT trim, including a rear cross traffic alert, rear park assist, and a side blind zone alert. Best of all, these available safety features are all included with a single package, so you do not have to try to pick and choose the best ones.
