Take it from us: the 2022 Buick Encore is the best value in the overcrowded subcompact crossover category with the highest level premium features in its class. If you’re seeking a vehicle that ticks all the boxes and more, it’s time to test drive an Encore. With more horsepower and improved fuel efficiency, the 2022 Encore is poised to defy any of its competitors in almost every comparison.

As one of Buick’s best-selling models, the Encore occupies an important spot in the lineup. It’s the most affordable vehicle Buick offers, yet it doesn’t compromise on the premium features Buick crossovers are famous for, like LED headlights and taillights, a power moonroof, and the brand’s signature QuietTuning technology for a whisper-quiet cabin that virtually eliminates road noise.

Buick also plays to win with a plethora of available technology features designed to keep occupants connected and entertained. With smartphone integration and app-based connected services, the Encore holds its own. Technology and infotainment are best enjoyed on a long drive, which is why the Encore’s turbocharged powertrain and available all-wheel drive are standout features.

At just shy of 170 inches in overall length, this pint-sized premium crossover is perfect for urban dwellers needing to fit in tight spots and navigate crowded city streets. There’s also plenty of cargo room to stow groceries or haul that one-of-a-kind find at the local antique shop. A rainbow of available exterior colors and a simple singular trim make picking out your Encore fun and easy.

    Exterior Looks and Options

Headlining the long list of desirable features on the 2022 Encore is its bold exterior styling. It’s both athletic and refined, landing on a sophisticated vibe not commonly seen in the subcompact crossover segment. All Buick vehicles are elegant, and the Encore is no exception. Heated outside power mirrors are standard, along with roof-mounted side rails, and body-color door handles for a monotone look.

The optional 18-inch aluminum wheels with Technical Gray pockets really give the Encore a unique look. You can also add an available power moonroof for some fresh air. You can also upgrade your Encore to add Rainsense automatic wipers that will adjust to the weather conditions as needed.

    Interior Styling and Features

Inside, the Encore puts the focus on luxury and simplifies the shopping process by including most comfort and convenience features as standard equipment. The Encore incorporates a standard 6-way power driver’s seat, a cabin air filter, a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen, and the choice of two different interior cloth/leatherette seating surfaces. The list of standard features continues to expand to include several luxury touches.

If you like a serene cabin environment - and let’s face it, who doesn’t want to minimize road noise - you’ll appreciate Buicks’ QuietTuning technology. The technology was born from a series of noise and vibration testing conducted by Buick engineers who determined how different conditions, like wind or temperature change, affected the cabin’s noise level. From there, they incorporated innovative solutions to mitigate it.

QuietTuning includes acoustic glass and copious amounts of insulation installed behind the dashboard, under the hood, and between the headliner and the vehicle’s roof. Special underbody paneling reduces road-noise, and even the tires are specially quiet-tuned. Coupled with Active Noise Cancelation, which uses cabin microphones to neutralize exterior noise by sending out contrasting frequencies, you will be able to enjoy a smooth and quiet ride.

The unintended benefit of sound mitigation technology is it creates a better sound environment for voice-activated technology. It also means your phone calls are clearer and easier to hear. Buick even considered the aerodynamics of the Encore’s exterior mirrors to minimize wind drag and the noise it typically generates. QuietTuning technology is exclusive to Buick and one of the many reasons it's considered a premium brand.

  • Technology

Within every 2022 Buick Encore is a full range of infotainment and safety technology designed to keep every occupant safe, connected, and entertained. Today’s vehicles are infused with features that just 10 years ago seemed like science fiction. Who would’ve believed that a supercomputer the size of a credit card (a.k.a. your smartphone) could unlock your car door and start your vehicle remotely (including automatically adjusting the climate control)?

    Buick Connected Services

Buick Connected Services does all that and more, offering subscription-based digital connectivity via the myBuick mobile app. Buyers can choose from three different service levels. The first is basic Connected Access which is complimentary for 10 years and includes access to vehicle diagnostics and Buick Smart Driver, a system that tracks your driving habits and makes recommendations to improve fuel economy. The basic plan also allows you to access data plans to activate the Encore’s standard Wi-Fi Hotspot.

Bump up to the Remote Access Plan and unlock the remote key fob. From within the app, you can remotely start the car, lock and unlock the doors, adjust cabin temperature, and sound the horn (a lifesaver when you forget where you’re parked). Remote Access also gets you on-demand diagnostics to quickly learn the seriousness of any warning lights that pop up on your display.

Do you have a teen driver at home? You’ll be glad to know that Remote Access can help you monitor their driving habits and location. You can set boundaries and receive alerts when your Encore travels outside them and also set up arrival and departure notifications, all through the myBuick app. Vehicle location data is displayed clearly on a map, and because the system is connected to the in-vehicle touchscreen, you can even send directions to the navigation system right from your smartphone.

Commuters and road trippers will love Buick’s top-tier plan, the Connected Vehicle Plan. With this plan, you’ll equip the 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot with unlimited data with enough bandwidth for up to seven devices. Navigation gets turbocharged with the Connected Vehicle Plan, too, adding turn-by-turn directions with real-time traffic information, so you’re never caught off guard by a slowdown.

  • Safety

A view from the camera in a 2022 Buick Encore shows a surrounding check.

With all the semi-autonomous safety technology making headlines in the car industry, it’s easy to forget that physical occupant safety equipment is still a critical component for lessening the severity of a crash. Buick equipped the 2022 Encore with 10 standard airbags strategically located in areas where an injury is most likely. The Encore received a perfect 5-star Overall Safety Rating from the NHTSA.

Tailor Your Safety Features to Your Needs

The 2022 Encore features several driver-assist safety technologies that buyers can add via two bundled packages. You can choose to add the Safety Package and receive the Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. The second package, Safety Package II, adds the Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning, as well as the Rainsense automatic wipers. Front and Rear Park Assist is also part of the Safety Package II. All Encore trims receive a standard backup camera which comes in handy when backing out of a driveway or parking spot.

How do these driver-assist technologies work? They rely on a series of sensors and cameras that constantly monitor road and traffic conditions in front of, around, and behind the vehicle. When the system senses an incoming vehicle or person, it sends an alert to the driver. For example, Side Blind Zone Alert works by sensing when a vehicle is approaching on the left or right side and alerting you to the vehicle's presence so that you can change lanes confidently without worrying that a vehicle may be in your blind spot.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert works similarly and boosts the effectiveness of the Encore’s standard rear vision camera. The sensors watch for traffic coming from both sides of the area the vehicle is backing into. When the car goes in reverse, the sensors go to work monitoring for oncoming side traffic. Backing up is exponentially easier when you have an extra set of “eyes” looking out for vehicles coming into your intended area of travel.

Driving in inclement weather is a breeze in an all-wheel drive Encore. Paired with the standard 1.4-liter turbo engine and six-speed automatic transmission, the Encore’s all-wheel drive system distributes power to the wheels with the most traction, aiding grip and handling in all weather conditions. It’s especially helpful when navigating slick, rain-soaked roads.
