Electric vehicles are being positioned as the wave of the future, and companies like Chevy are looking to ride that wave with highly popular and much-anticipated models such as the 2022 Chevy Bolt EV. The 2022 model year of this all-electric hatchback brings amazing features to the table, along with performance enhancements, improved interior space, a more visually enticing exterior, and many of the amenities most drivers have come to expect out of a modern car. There are even a few surprises that people may not be expecting.
The 2022 Bolt EV marks a continued effort from Chevrolet to expand on eco-conscious designs and proliferate the market with electric alternatives. In fact, the Bolt EV is part of a larger presence from General Motors to offer more green options. The Bolt EV is available in two trims that include the base 1LT and the more luxury-oriented 2LT.

The 2022 Chevy Bolt EV is powered by a 65 kWh battery pack tucked underneath the vehicle. The battery powers a single electric motor and allows the Chevy Bolt EV to achieve a maximum range of 259 miles on one full charge. A total of 288 lithium-ion battery cells feed power to the inverter that allows the electric motor to provide propulsion for the vehicle. The electric motor powering the Chevy Bolt EV is an advanced permanent magnet motor that produces up to 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque - a potent amount for a relatively small vehicle. The motor is connected to the front wheels by a single-speed transmission and can propel the vehicle from 0 to 60 miles per hour in under 7 seconds.
The battery pack is cooled through coolant lines that run throughout and underneath the battery pack, ensuring longevity for the Bolt EV's performance. Chevy stands by its batteries by offering an 8-year or 100,000 miles warranty for all the electrical components in the car.
The 2022 Bolt EV also provides multiple ways to charge or recharge the battery pack, from the 120-volt charging that allows you to plug your Bolt EV in at home to the ability to visit multiple charging stations across the United States. By installing an affordable 240-volt charger at your home, you can get a full charge overnight and have your vehicle all set when you leave home in the morning.
Additionally, there is also the benefit of making full use of DC fast charging when time is of the essence. DC fast charging is quickly becoming a go-to method for keeping electric vehicles primed and ready when you are on a road trip. Bolts equipped with a standard SAE combo connector can make full use of the DC fast charging, allowing drivers to charge the Bolt EV for up to 100 miles of travel in less than 30 minutes. Plug your car in while you enjoy lunch, and you'll be ready to keep driving for the rest of the day.
The 2022 Bolt EV also makes use of one-pedal driving, which is a unique feature for electric vehicles that allows for regenerative charging by simply driving. Using the one-pedal driving feature sees drivers being able to come to a full stop with the Bolt EV by simply letting their foot off the accelerator while holding down the Regen on Demand paddle behind the steering wheel. Instead of applying the brakes, the vehicle will run the electric motor in reverse, slowing down the car and recharging the battery at the same time. This helps prolong the amount of time you're able to drive on the road while also reducing the time between charges.
There is a lot of talk about the 2022 Chevy Bolt EV's redesigned exterior, thanks to its sharper lines on the rear fascia, angular side skirts, and pointed front end. The entire redesign offers drivers a more sophisticated and futuristic aesthetic and helps with the aerodynamics of the vehicle, providing longer travel times and an overall smoother ride. However, it's not just the exterior where the Bolt EV shines. The number of interior comfort features continues to increase with each new iteration of the Bolt EV, and the 2022 model year is no exception.
Even with a diminutive wheelbase of only 102.4-inches, the 2022 Chevy Bolt EV offers lots of room within its interior. With more than 52-cubic feet of passenger volume in the front driver and passenger area and more than 42-cubic feet of passenger volume in the rear passenger seats, the Bolt boasts a total passenger volume of 93.9-cubic feet. All five passengers are afforded plenty of room to stretch out. This includes up to 40-inches of headroom, 44-inches of legroom in the front, 51-inches of hip room, and up to 54-inches of shoulder room.
The interior also includes leather-appointed seating for the 2LT trim, along with an 8-way power driver seat. Both the 1LT and 2LT come with a multi-speaker audio system, USB-C and standard USB ports for charging devices, carpeted floor mats, and a center console with a sliding armrest. The 2LT trim tops off its luxury offerings with heated driver and front passenger seats, along with heated rear outboard seats. Power windows and power door locks are standard on both trims, as well as a rear cargo cover, rear carpeted floor mats, and steering wheel-mounted controls.
The 2022 Bolt EV comes with a large assortment of safety features and technology, including the standard inclusion of the Chevy Safety Assist suite. This includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assistance with Lane Departure Warning, a Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, and a Following Distance Indicator that works both for normal driving and for when cruise control is enabled. IntelliBeam headlights are also standard on both the 1LT and 2LT trims, automatically enabling and disabling the high-beam headlights based on road conditions.
Additional driver assists include Rear Park Assist and Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert. The added bonus of the side blind zone monitoring ensures that when you do switch lanes, you aren't merging into a vehicle in your blind zone. Tire fill alerts and tire pressure monitoring also come standard on both trims, along with multiple airbags throughout the cabin, and the lower anchors and tethers for children system (also known as LATCH), with rear child security door locks. Finally, the always-popular Teen Driver mode ensures that parents are able to monitor and keep a report of their teen's driving habits and behaviors, while additional safety measures such as seatbelt checks are enabled before the vehicle can be put into motion.
OnStar connected services are a standard feature for both trims. This will allow you to keep track of your vehicle from your smartphone, giving you remote access to everything from your tire pressure to your preset radio stations. Additional connectivity technology includes the availability of HD radio and SiriusXM Satellite Radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and internet connectivity via 4G LTE Wi-Fi. You can also stream media, access apps, and wirelessly access your smartphone through the LCD touchscreen in the center of the dashboard.
Drivers have access to all of the information they need about the 2022 Bolt EV thanks to a digital dash cluster that contains plenty of data, from vehicle health and travel distance to the charge status and regenerative properties. This supplements the standard 10.2-inch central infotainment touchscreen, which gives you intuitive access to the more advanced entertainment aspects of the 2022 Bolt EV. Everything from safety, to security, to infotainment is covered by the 2022 Bolt EV right out of the gate, making it a fully-featured electric vehicle that more than accommodates potential buyers' expectations.
