Based on what we’ve heard from General Motors about its plans for the Chevy Camaro, we’re confident that the 2024 model year will be the last for this high-performance sedan in its current form. The sixth-generation Camaro first came out in 2016, but General Motors has no plans to develop a seventh-generation model. Underscoring that the model is coming to an end, reports suggest that a special edition “farewell” package will be available in the 2024 model year. Since its release in 1966, the Chevy Camaro has proven popular among car buyers looking for raw power under the hood and excellent handling thanks to its compact body. The current Camaro offers two V-8 engine options: one putting out 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque and a supercharged V-8 capable of generating 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. A wide range of performance packages is offered, so you can configure your Camaro for the track or give it a sportier feel. In its top trim, the 2022 Camaro can sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. Inside the cabin, the latest edition of Chevy’s sports car has four seats across two rows and an infotainment system featuring a 7-inch touch screen and a six-speaker stereo. General Motors’ EV Plans Although General Motors hasn’t yet committed to its intentions for the Camaro model, the automaker’s ambition for a major transition to EVs is no secret. General Motors plans to invest $35 billion in EVs between 2020 and 2025, outpacing the amount of money it will spend on its gas-powered vehicles. The company intends to release a wide variety of EVs by 2025, including electric versions of the popular Chevy Equinox crossover and Silverado pickup. The basis for Chevy’s rapidly growing range of EVs is General Motors’ Ultium platform. This system has helped reduce the cost of batteries and allows General Motors to manufacture EVs in various sizes. As a company briefing recently noted, everything from a compact crossover to a large commercial vehicle can be supported by the Ultium platform. Given that General Motors already has the tools to build a high-performance electric sedan, speculation has grown as to whether the Camaro could play a new role in Chevy’s lineup. With the current generation expiring in the 2024 model year, Chevy would have time to bring out an electric Camaro as part of General Motors’ EV transformation plans by 2025. The automaker has set the ambitious goal of selling 1 million EVs by the middle of the decade, and an exciting new Camaro EV could help it reach that target. A company video briefing in late 2021 fueled speculation about the Camaro’s future by briefly showing an EV sedan presented as a Buick. Since Buick no longer makes sedans for the U.S. market, some observers concluded that the video contained a subtle hint that the Camaro could get a new start. Another way the Camaro could continue is if Chevy turns it into a four-door EV sedan rather than its current two-door coupe design. The four-door option would benefit from opening the new Camaro EV to a broader market of buyers who could use the rear row of seats more easily. The current Camaro’s second row is only usable for kids or as a storage space. Since its release in the 1960s, the Camaro has been sold as a two-door vehicle. General Motors’ EV platform would possess enough power to create a sedan with exciting acceleration off the line. The Ultium platform can reportedly support all-electric motors ranging in output from 250 horsepower to 1000 horsepower. That top headline figure is set to be achieved by the soon-to-be-released Silverado EV. EVs for Everyone Summing up General Motors’ plans for Chevy and its other brands to expand in the EV market, General Motors CEO Mary Barra recently said that the aim is to produce “EVs for everyone.” Plans are already well underway to achieve this aim, with General Motors opening new EV production facilities. The automaker also intends to have four EV battery plants in the U.S. by 2025 to help meet the increased demand produced by the growth of this new vehicle segment. We’ll have to wait to see whether the ambitious plan to offer an EV for everyone includes those who would like a high-performance speedster, even if it no longer relies on a gas-powered engine. One final potential outcome of the transition would be that Chevy decides to retire the Camaro name and bring out an entirely new high-powered sedan in keeping with its modern shift to zero emissions vehicles. By 2035, the company expects almost all its vehicles to be electric, apart from a few heavy-duty trucks. Chevrolet’s reliable Express cargo vans have been on the market for over two decades and remain popular. The main reason for this is that they get the job done, whether hauling a heavy payload or transporting a group of passengers. For 2022, Chevy’s Express vans are back with the features you’ll need to get to work. Chevy Express Engine Options The Express has three engine options, all of which pack a substantial punch. The base engine is a 4.3L V-6 that churns out 276 horsepower and 298 lb-ft of torque. If you frequently haul heavy loads and would prefer a bit more power, you can step up to the 6.6L V-8 with 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque. The final engine option is a 2.8L diesel with 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The diesel engine will be the most fuel-efficient option of the three. Express Towing and Hauling If you’re regularly transporting goods to your store or customers, you’ll be happy to learn that the Express offers solid towing and payload limits. This van can tow up to 10,000 pounds, which is enough to cope with a decent-sized trailer. In the back, it can haul a maximum payload of 4,280 pounds. Express Exterior Dimensions Whether you opt for an Express cargo or passenger van, there are two configurations you can choose from. The regular wheelbase models have a wheelbase of 135 inches, while the extended wheelbase vans have a wheelbase of 155 inches. Vans with a regular wheelbase are about 224 inches long, while the extended wheelbase models come in at 244 inches. It would be best to consider whether you require the added space offered by the extended wheelbase model often enough, given the additional expense it brings. Express Cargo Interior In the Express Cargo van, there’s seating for two people up front. With over 40 inches of headroom and 41 inches of legroom, you shouldn’t find it difficult to get comfortable. Behind the seats, you’ll find 239.4 cubic feet of storage space for your cargo. The cargo area has a height of over 55 inches and more than 4 feet between the wheels, so you shouldn’t have trouble loading bulky items for transportation. If you need more space, the Express 2500 with an extended wheelbase has 284 cubic feet of storage space at the rear. The height and width dimensions of the cargo area remain the same. The extended wheelbase option in the Express 3500 creates an even larger cargo area, with a capacity of 319 cubic feet. Express Passenger Interior The Express passenger van can carry 12 passengers across four rows with a regular wheelbase. The legroom and headroom measurements are the same for the front row as in the cargo van. Passengers in the second, third, and fourth rows get approximately 38 inches of headroom and 36.5 inches of legroom. Passenger vans with the extended wheelbase have their capacity boosted to 15. These vans add a fifth row of seating at the rear. Infotainment and Safety Tech The primary purpose of Chevy’s cargo and passenger vans is getting on with the job at hand, so the infotainment features on offer are slimmed down considerably from other vehicles you may be familiar with. That said, you can still take advantage of some important standard features during your drive. Each Express van has a Wi-Fi hotspot, allowing you to stay in touch with work colleagues at the office, no matter where you may be. They also feature an AM/FM radio and two speakers at the front of the cab. Optional upgrades include Bluetooth connectivity, forward collision warning, and cruise control. Remote keyless entry and lane departure warning are also offered in the passenger van. Express Van Trims and Pricing If you’re choosing the cargo van, you can decide between the Express 2500 and the Express 3500. The main difference is that the Express 3500 includes a reinforced frame that can be paired with several work packages, such as the ambulance package. The passenger van is also available with both the Express 2500 and the Express 3500. Each van has a 1LS and 1LT trim for you to select. The 1LS is the more basic of the two, offering vinyl bucket seats up front, vinyl floor coverings, and manual air conditioning. Moving up to the 1LT gets you cloth upholstery and carpeted flooring with rubber mats. There’s a wide range of additional packages for you to consider. Some of these include the $100 Cold Climate package, which adds an engine block heater to your van, and the $2,880 Communications package. This package features a larger V-8 engine, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and Bluetooth connectivity. The Enhanced Convenience package may be useful if you regularly haul heavy loads. It includes additional trailering equipment as well as the V-8 engine. The MSRP for the Express van starts at around $33,000. Many drivers never have to worry about when to use premium or regular gasoline. While most cars typically take regular fuel, you may have recently purchased a new or used vehicle that requires premium gasoline. While you may be uncertain which type of fuel is best for your car, understanding the differences between the fuel types can help you determine what you need to know the next time you fill up. What Types of Gas Are There? When you pull up to the fuel pump, you’ll usually see three types of gas options. Each type of gas is characterized by its octane rating. Here’s what you need to know about each option: Regular Gas Regular gas is the common fuel option that most people are familiar with. Not only is it the cheapest option, but it’s also the one with the lowest octane rating. In most states, regular gas has an octane rating of 87. Lower octane is not necessarily bad, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with sticking to regular fuel if that’s what your car needs. Premium Gas Premium gas has a higher octane rating than regular fuel. Premium gas typically has an octane rating of 91. Many sport cars and luxury vehicles use premium gas to improve their performance. Supreme Gas Supreme gas, sometimes also known as super or premium plus gas, has the highest octane rating at 93. If you own a luxury or high-performance vehicle, this fuel may be the one that helps you get the most out of your car. Some people believe that supreme gas can help clean their vehicles’ engines, but this is not the case. There is no additional benefit to using supreme or premium plus gas if your manufacturer does not recommend or require it. What Is Octane? Octane measures the ability of the fuel to resist knocking, which is a sound you may hear in your car when the combination of air and fuel is not quite right. Each vehicle has different octane requirements, and an engine that knocks is not running as efficiently as it should. Fuel with a higher octane rating is less likely to cause a detonation at the wrong time, which reduces your engine’s performance. Why Should You Use Regular Gas Instead of Premium Fuel? Regular gas is more affordable than other options, so you should not pay more for premium fuel if your car is not going to benefit from it. If your car recommends premium fuel but does not require it, you may also get by just using regular gas and saving a few bucks. Your high compression can cause the engine to knock. Some newer cars have sensors that prevent engine knocking. Knocking means that the fuel is combusting too quickly for your engine, causing a terrible noise. You’ll also see the impact on your car’s power. How Do You Know Which Fuel to Use? If you’re still not sure what kind of fuel to use, check the owner’s manual of your vehicle. Whether you bought a new, used, or certified used car, you should have access to a manual in your car or online. Some cars even have the recommendation on the gas cap itself. If you still aren’t certain, you can also ask a service technician at the dealership. If you have a vehicle designed for performance or your car is turbocharged, you’ll likely use premium gas. In contrast, a typical sedan, SUV, or pickup truck likely uses regular gas. When you shop for cars, you can ask the dealer to show you cars that use a specific type of fuel. This may be useful if you have concerns about how much you spend on fuel, for instance. What Should You Do If You Used the Wrong Gas? If you use the wrong fuel, you should schedule a service appointment with a technician. While using the wrong gas one time is not likely to cause serious damage, you should still have your car checked out to avoid engine knocking and other issues. It’s best to avoid making a habit of using the wrong fuel. The biggest problem comes from accidentally putting diesel fuel in a car that does not require it. In this case, you will need to drain the fuel from your car to avoid clogging your fuel filters. Diesel fuel is thick, and you don’t want to try driving with it if your car doesn’t need it. Take your car to a mechanic right away. What Happens If You Mix Regular and Premium Gas? Mixing fuels will not improve your engine performance. Stick with one type of gas to ensure that your vehicle is reaping all the benefits of its recommended fuel type. If you do mix fuel types on occasion, you’re not likely to see terrible results. With the Trax and Equinox, Chevrolet offers two compact crossover options. Both of these vehicles have many positive points to make them attractive for a range of car buyers. Trax vs. Equinox: Engine and Performance The 2022 Equinox has a touch more power under the hood than its smaller cousin, the 2022 Trax. The Equinox’s 1.5-liter turbocharged engine can put out 170 horsepower, while the Trax’s engine is good for 155 horsepower. Both engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. While the Equinox enjoys more power, the Trax is slightly more fuel efficient. It achieves 32 mpg on the highway compared to 31 mpg for the Equinox. The fuel efficiency ratings for both crossovers drop by 1 mpg if you upgrade to all-wheel drive. Trax vs. Equinox: Passenger and Cargo Space As you’d expect, the compact Equinox has more interior space than the subcompact Trax. Buyers who need the additional room will prefer the Equinox, while the Trax may suit you just fine if space comes at a premium where you usually park. Both the Equinox and Trax have adult-friendly seating in the front and rear. They can also accommodate child seating thanks to two sets of LATCH connectors in the rear rows. The Trax offers around 18 cubic feet of cargo capacity behind the second row. That’s usually adequate for a weekend’s worth of luggage or a large load of groceries. The Equinox offers quite a bit more space, with 29.9 cubic feet at the rear. With the second row of seats folded flat, the Equinox offers approximately 63 cubic feet compared to just over 48 cubic feet in the Trax. Trax vs. Equinox: Infotainment and Safety Features The standard infotainment systems in both Chevy crossovers are quite similar, but the Equinox has more optional upgrades on offer than the Trax. Both vehicles come with a 7-inch screen and six-speaker stereo in their base trims. They also feature smartphone compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Trax comes equipped with a Wi-Fi hotspot, so you can stay connected wherever you go, while the Equinox includes satellite radio. Higher trims in the Equinox allow you to access a larger 8-inch screen and a premium seven-speaker stereo. You can also add wireless device charging, so you can keep your phone’s battery full while you’re on the road. By contrast, no major infotainment upgrades are available in the Trax. The Equinox also offers a wider variety of driver safety features than the Trax. The only standard driver safety feature in the Trax is a rearview camera, while the Equinox has forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning. It also has Teen Driver technology, which allows you to control how younger family members can drive your crossover. For example, you can impose speed limits and restrict how loud the stereo can go. Optional safety upgrades with the Trax include rear parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring. In the Equinox, you can get a surround-view parking camera, which provides an aerial view of your SUV on your screen, so you can park with confidence. Trax vs. Equinox: Trims and Pricing Buyers shopping on a modest budget are likely to prefer the Trax over the Equinox. Chevy’s smallest SUV carries an MSRP of $21,400, which is substantially lower than the Equinox’s $25,800. The advantage of spending more money to get the Equinox is that it comes with more tech features and a larger cabin. The Equinox is available in four trims, while the Trax only has two. This reflects the fact that there are more luxury add-ons on offer in the Equinox’s lineup than with Trax models. In the Equinox’s base trim, you can choose to add a power-adjustable driver’s seat, blind-spot monitoring, and parking sensors. The next trim is the LT, which gets you a driver’s seat with power adjustments and allows you to add the larger 8-inch screen and a navigation system. The third trim option is the RS, and it includes dark exterior accents, heated front seats, and 19-inch wheels. The highest trim offered with the Equinox is called Premier, and it’s the ideal choice for buyers who like an upscale ride. Equinox Premiers come with leather upholstery, an 8-inch screen, and optional heated rear seats. A range of driver safety tech is also available. The Trax’s trim lineup is much more modest. The base LS trim includes keyless entry and cloth upholstery. You can opt to include some additional features, such as remote start and cruise control. The range-topping LT trim adds synthetic leather accents to your upholstery, cruise control, and heated mirrors.
