If you’re in the market for a new car, have you considered taking a look at an electric vehicle? Electric vehicles have only been on the market for a short time, but they have already taken the world by storm. Rather than going with a hybrid or a more traditional gas-guzzling vehicle, ask your electric car dealership to hook you up with a vehicle that will not only save you money on gasoline but will also have you feeling good about your positive effect on the environment.
What are Electric Vehicles and Why Do You Want One?
True to the name, an electric vehicle is a vehicle that runs fully off of electricity. No gasoline, diesel fuel, hydrogen, or anything else is needed to run an EV. Instead, to charge up your engine, just plug your vehicle into a compatible charging port. Before you know it, you’ll be on your way, ready to drive wherever the road may take you. Electric cars are cheaper to operate, more convenient, and offer better performance than most traditional vehicles.
Current Available Electric Vehicles
There are several options for electric vehicles these days, and in the coming years, those options are only going to expand. Many automobile manufacturers have begun to offer EV lineups, but in our opinion, GM has some of the best electric vehicles on the market. Chevrolet, in particular, has revolutionized the electric vehicle industry with the Chevy Bolt EV. This cute little hatchback runs off of nothing but electricity, saving drivers all over the world thousands of dollars on gasoline every single year. Even though the Bolt looks small, it packs quite a punch with 200 horsepower and a range of 259 miles on a full charge.
While you can get an affordable supercharging at one of the 4,400 public DC fast-charging stations scattered throughout the U.S., Chevrolet has also made the option of charging the Bolt at home even more user-friendly. You have the option of using either a 120-volt or a 240-volt power outlet from the comfort of your own home. Improved charging units are easily installed by any professional and allow you to charge your EV easily while you’re sleeping or just hanging out at home.
The 2022 Chevy Bolt EV starts at just $31,995, making the savings even more accessible for the average driver. This electric vehicle even comes standard with all the best interior technologies and safety features that discerning drivers have become accustomed to. In fact, the 2021 Bolt EV has earned a 5-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. With stats like this, it’s no wonder why Chevrolet is one of the best electric vehicle manufacturers in the U.S.
Future Chevy EVs We Can Expect
In the foreseeable future, Chevrolet has some pretty exciting electric vehicles come up. First, of course, we have the upgraded 2022 Chevy Bolt EV. This already amazing vehicle has seen a complete redesign for 2022. It still offers drivers a range of 259 miles on a full charge, but it now has improved looks, more standard features, and a few new options that make driving and owning an electric vehicle easier than ever.
But Chevrolet isn’t stopping at just a new Bolt EV. There is also an all-new electric SUV for 2022, known as the Chevy Bolt EUV. Just like the Bolt EV, the Bolt EUV will have the option of being charged using public DC fast-charging stations or with charging stations installed at your home. Drivers will be able to charge the EUV with a standard 120-volt outlet, or they can hire a professional to upgrade their garage with a 240-volt charger that will charge the EUV even faster.
Chevrolet is planning to cover the installation of level 2 charging stations in the homes of eligible 2022 Bolt EV and 2022 Bolt EUV drivers. This is great news because an already affordable and environmentally friendly vehicle is now becoming even more affordable. Ask Dan Cummins, your electric car dealership, for more information on how to qualify for this service.
One of the most exciting features about the new 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV is what’s known as Super Cruise. Super Cruise is an all-new technology that allows your vehicle to drive itself! Using a sophisticated LiDAR Mapping technology, when you drive on one of the 200,000-plus miles of compatible roads in North America, you can sit back, relax, and let your Bolt EUV take the wheel for you, hands-free. This Super Cruise technology is the next step towards the everyday American owning a self-driving vehicle, and it sure is impressive.
The Bolt EUV uses the LiDAR mapping technology to know every twist and turn of the upcoming road, and in conjunction with adaptive cruise control, your vehicle can read the traffic around you so that you are always traveling at a safe and appropriate speed for the conditions. Nothing makes a road trip more enjoyable than being able to stretch out and relax, and now, thanks to the 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV, this is possible even for the driver.
While the Super Cruise technology is currently only available with the 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV and not the Chevy Bolt EV, there are other technologies that each EV will share. For instance, the one-pedal driving feature allows you to save energy by speeding up and slowing down all with the press or lift of a single pedal. You can also engage maximum regenerative braking whenever you want by pulling the regen on demand paddle mounted on the steering wheel.
Chevy isn’t the only GM brand forging ahead with electric vehicles, and we expect Buick to join the EV market sometime in the 2020s. Buick has already unveiled the futuristic Buick Electra concept car, which comes with butterfly wing doors and a range of more than 400 miles on a single charge. While we don’t expect the Batmobile doors to make it to the eventual production model (though we can always hope!), the long range is probably realistic.
This sort of range is thanks to GM’s new Ultium battery technology, which promises to revolutionize what electric vehicles are capable of. This kind of range is absolutely incredible, and when you consider the fact that Buick is already considered a quality luxury vehicle manufacturer, we know we can expect big things from its future electric vehicle.
