The Equinox for Future Generations

Which Is for Me?

2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD

Consider a used Chevy Silverado 2500 HD from 2015 for a great option that can have some really terrific features. 2015 was the first model year for the third-generation of the heavy-duty Silverado, making it a solid choice when looking at what’s available. In terms of performance, there are two different engines you might find on these models: a 6.0L Vortec V8 offering up to 397 lb-ft of torque and a 6.6L Duramax V8 that delivers up to 765 lb-ft of torque, so keep that in mind when looking at different ones you find.

If you’re looking for some great luxury and tech options inside a used Silverado 2500 HD, then you’ll want to pay attention to the trim level you find and what features it comes with. For example, a full-color 8-inch Infotainment display was available on the 2500 HD in 2015, though not necessarily standard, as were numerous USB ports and a power outlet. You could also get a power-sliding rear window with a defroster on the 2500 HD in 2015. An 8-inch reconfigurable LCD driver information screen was also available, so keep an eye on the dials and dashboard in any used model you’re interested in.

One thing we will say, however, is that since 2015 was the first year for this generation, you might look for 2016 models instead. The first year of any generation can sometimes have some bugs or hiccups that need to be worked out, and the following year is often a better choice. That being said, a great model from either 2015 or 2016 will serve you quite well and can deliver tremendous power and great interior features.

2019 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD

Whereas 2015 was the first year for the Silverado 2500 HD’s third generation, 2019 was its last year, and it definitely ended strong. While you might not find a huge number of these available just yet, since they’re still pretty recent, more of them are coming onto the used market all the time. Over the next year or so, you’ll see a lot of these become available after being driven on a lease, which usually means they’re in excellent condition.

Interior features for 2019 models were still quite good and built on the impressive options already present in 2015. There are some very comfortable seats to be found in a used Chevy Silverado 2500 HD, which might not sound as important as rugged power and muscle, but when you’re sitting in it for long stretches of time, you’ll be glad you have it. More impressive technology became available over the course of the third generation, so the available 8-inch displays were joined by other features like improved sound systems and an available wireless charging pad for compatible devices.

One thing very much worth noting with 2019 and similar used Silverado 2500 HD models is that a more powerful engine became available starting in 2017. The 6.6L Duramax V8 turbo diesel engine that was offered throughout the third generation was improved in 2017 to deliver p to 445 hp and up to 910 lb-ft of torque for excellent towing capacity and overall power. So if you’re looking at trucks from 2017 and later, including a 2019 model, watch for this incredible engine.

2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD

Finally, we come to the most recent year for the Chevy Silverado 2500HD, which marks the beginning of the fourth generation for this pickup. Admittedly, you’re not going to find a tremendous number of these trucks available used just yet, but there are a few out there already, with more hitting the market as each month passes. Since these are the most recent bunch of trucks, they also have some of the most impressive features you can find.

For example, the High Country trim has an 8-inch Infotainment display, a 7-speaker Bose Premium sound system, and perforated leather-appointed seating with a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel all standard. 10-way power adjustable front seats, heated front and rear seats, an 8-inch driver information display with keyless open and start, remote start, and a wireless charging pad are also standard on the High Country, so you can really get some impressive luxury in a recent model. The incredibly powerful Duramax V8 engine has continued to be available on 2020 models, with an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission, making this one of the most sophisticated and impressive trucks on the road.

The 2021 Chevy Trax

In looking at the lineup of new SUVs you’ll find at your Chevy dealer, going from smallest interior cargo space to largest, we begin with the 2021 Trax. The Trax is a great choice if you are interested in an SUV, but you really don’t have room in your life for too much vehicle. Due to its smaller size – this is a compact crossover model – it has just 48.4 cu.ft. of total interior cargo space and seating for up to five people.

That being said, it’s still a solid option if that size really works for you. All-wheel drive is available if you need something to handle rougher terrain or poor weather, and it has great fuel efficiency for a standard-engine SUV. It also has ten airbags and a number of terrific safety features available to protect you and your loved ones.

The 2021 Chevy Trailblazer

This is an all-new model for 2021, and one that a lot of people are excited about – including us. The Trailblazer is the perfect option if you’re looking for a small crossover SUV and want to save some money because it has the lowest starting price of any SUV you’ll find at your Chevy dealer. The Trailblazer starts at just $19,000 – even the compact Trax starts off at $21,300.

Even though it’s a small model, you still get more than 54 cu.ft. of interior cargo space inside the Trailblazer, with seating for up to five people. All-wheel drive is available if that’s something you’re looking for, and much like the Trax, it has ten airbags and a number of great safety features available for you to choose from. In fact, given its low price and surprisingly spacious interior, this is a model we’re quick to suggest for anyone looking for a small SUV.

The 2020 Chevy Equinox

The last of the three small or compact options before we get to the midsize models, the 2020 Chevy Equinox is a great option for a lot of people. Even though this is a “small” crossover, much like the Trailblazer, it actually gives you significantly more interior cargo space than the other model. You get nearly 64 cu.ft. of interior cargo area with the Equinox, which is 10 cu.ft. more than in the Trailblazer.

This Equinox still has seating for five people – you need to check out a midsize or larger option for more seating – and offers great fuel economy. Plus, with the Equinox, you can get up to 3,500 lbs of towing capacity when properly equipped. That makes this a terrific option if you need plenty of room inside and great towing options but still want a small model.

The 2021 Chevy Blazer

The 2021 Blazer is the first of the two midsize SUVs that you’ll find at your Chevy dealer this year and one that has lost a bit of its identity. While it’s a fine option, it does lack much reason to choose it over the other models available. Even though it’s a midsize SUV, it only has just 64.2 cu.ft. of interior cargo space – barely more than what you can get with the Equinox.

However, the Blazer does give you up to 4,500 lbs of towing capacity when properly configured. As you can see, that’s a good 1,000 lbs more than you can get with the Equinox, which is one of this model’s great strengths. So if you need more towing than the Equinox can manage, and the Blazer checks all of your boxes, then it is a terrific choice.

The 2020 Chevy Traverse

The second midsize option in the Chevy lineup is significantly larger than what we’ve seen so far. The 2020 Traverse is a three-row midsize SUV, which gives you seating for up to eight people – though some models have seating for seven instead. With its larger size, you get over 98 cu.ft. of interior cargo space available inside the Traverse, which is a huge amount compared to the Blazer or Equinox.

This larger, more powerful SUV also has a bit more towing capacity – up to 5,000 lbs when properly configured. That’s not quite as significant of an improvement over the Blazer compared to its interior space, but it is still more. Overall, if you need a lot of seating but don’t want to go for a large SUV, then the Traverse is an excellent choice.

The 2021 Chevy Tahoe

Both of the full-size SUVs at your Chevy dealer received a major overhaul this year and are the start of a new generation. The all-new 2021 Chevy Tahoe is bigger than ever before and has a selection of fantastic options and features available. Its large size gives you seating for up to nine passengers, though some models have seats for seven or eight, depending on the trim and options you are viewing.

With this beast, you get nearly 123 cu.ft. of interior cargo space, which is almost double what you find inside the Chevy Equinox and Blazer. It also has an amazing 6.2L V8 engine available that gives you 420 hp and makes for a truly fantastic driving experience. And with new trims to choose from, including the off-road Z71, the Tahoe is better than ever before.

The 2021 Chevy Suburban

The 110-volt AC power outlet is retained in this package, but there is also a 10-way power adjustable driver seat, a remote vehicle starter, and an electric rear-window defogger.

The Silverado 1500 Custom trim rearranges quite a few packages, offering some spiffy options for those looking to boost the Chevy pickup’s appeal. While the Protection and Trailering Package options remain from the other three trims, the Custom trim adds a Custom Value Package, which combines the Trailering Package and the Convenience Package into one bundle. The Custom Convenience Package features many of the same conveniences as the other Convenience Packages, but it adds OnStar connected support services to the bundle along with a color-matched carpeted floor mats with rubberized vinyl.

The Silverado Custom beefs up its options even further with the Rally 1 Edition, featuring 20-inch black-painted aluminum wheels, a spray-on bed liner, and front and rear black Chevy bowtie emblems. A Black Package sweetens the deal with 22-inch five-spoke black-glossy wheels, four-inch assist steps, and front and rear black Chevy bowtie emblems. If you’re feeling frisky, the Texas Edition of the Silverado 1500 comes with everything from the Convenience Package, but with the Trailering Package added in for good measure along with SiriusXM satellite radio.

The LTZ trim is the one with all the exciting packages, starting with the LTZ Plus, which adds power-adjustable pedals and a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel. The LTZ also retains the optional Street Package, Black Package, Protection Package, Texas Edition, Essentials Package, and Chrome Package, but adds the Sport Package to the line-up. The Trailering Package is also upgraded for the LTZ trim to a Max Trailering Package that sports an integrated trailer brake controller, reinforced rear springs, and enhanced radiator cooling to help with trailering.

The LTZ trim also buffs up some of the offerings with its very own Interior Convenience Package, which comes with an organizational console insert tray, an interior driver assist handle, and a composite storage bin under the rear seats. There’s the Enhanced Driver Alert Package on the safety side of the offerings, which comes with built-in lane-keeping assist, ultrasonic front and rear parking assist, low-speed forward automatic braking, and IntelliBeam automatic high beam headlights.

Silverado Special Editions

Since the 2015 model year, the Chevy Silverado received special editions for nearly every year of the third generation production run. It started with introducing the Rally Edition, Custom Sport Edition, Custom Sport Plus Edition, Texas Edition, Midnight Edition, and Black Out Edition. Some of these were later made available in the higher end trims as optional packages, such as the Rally, Custom Sport, and Texas packages.
