Chevy Silverado 1500

Chevy is a staple in the American automotive landscape. You can easily find the iconic bowtie anywhere you look, whether you’re picking up groceries, cruising down the highway, or dropping the kids off at school. It’s trucks like the Silverado 1500 and the Colorado that have built Chevy’s reputation for producing reliable workhorses that cater to a variety of needs, whether you’re looking for a truck that’s easy to maneuver like the Colorado or you need a powerful hauler like the Silverado that can handle all the demands of the road. As your used Chevy truck dealer in Lexington, we’re proud of the fact that Chevy truly offers something for everyone.

We know firsthand that shopping for a truck can be confusing, especially when there are so many options. That’s why we’re here to show you a few key differences between the Silverado 1500 and the Colorado so that you can choose the best Chevy for your lifestyle and driving needs. Let’s get started!

Size, Purpose, and Price

A few of the first things to consider when shopping for a used Silverado 1500 or a Colorado is size, what you plan to do with the truck, and how much you want to spend. The midsize Colorado is the smallest truck in the Chevy lineup, measuring almost 15 inches shorter than the larger Silverado. Because of its size, the Colorado is easy to maneuver and is ideal if you live in a busy city with a lot of traffic but still need the conveniences that a truck offers. Its smaller size also lends to its lower price, which means even more savings when you shop for a Colorado on our used lot.

The Silverado 1500 is a full-size truck and is designed as a workhorse. While the Colorado can handle your weekend landscaping projects around the house, the Silverado does it all with greater ease. The Silverado is designed to haul large loads, whether that means loading the bed with tools and equipment, towing a large trailer, or hauling the party barge to the lake for the weekend. This capability and the Silverado’s larger size add to the truck’s higher price, but you can snag a great Silverado that’s loaded with features at an affordable price when you shop our used inventory.

Performance and Efficiency

While you’re thinking about how you plan to use the truck, it’s important to consider performance and efficiency. The Colorado doesn’t offer the same power or capability as the larger Silverado 1500, but it is more efficient. You also have more powertrain choices on the Silverado 1500, which means you can customize the truck to fit your performance needs. To see these differences firsthand, let’s look at the 2019 Silverado and the 2019 Colorado. Chevy made vast improvements to both trucks for 2019, and that’s made these models some of the fastest sellers on the used lot.

2019 Colorado

Offering best-in-class trailering in the midsize truck segment at 7,700 lbs, the 2019 Colorado has a lot to offer for its size. You’ll find three different powertrains – a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, a 3.6-liter V6, and a 2.8-liter Turbo-Diesel – that are paired with an 8-speed automatic (3.6-liter), a 6-speed manual (2.5-liter), or a 6-speed automatic (2.5-liter and 2.8-liter).

The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine delivers 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque. You’ll see a boost in power when you find a 2019 Colorado equipped with the 3.6-liter V6 that delivers 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. This drastic increase in power makes the V6 less efficient than the four-cylinder with the 3.6-liter averaging 18 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway compared to the 2.5-liter at 20 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway.

The 2.8-liter Turbo-Diesel delivers less power at 186 horsepower but boosts the Colorado’s torque rating to 369 lb-ft. This makes the diesel-powered Colorado a great workhorse when you’re hauling heavy loads. Luckily, this capability doesn’t come at the cost of efficiency with the diesel giving the Colorado an EPA-estimated average of 20 MPG in the city and 30 MPG on the highway on two-wheel drive models.

2019 Silverado

The 2019 Silverado is lighter, larger, and stronger than ever, thanks to a complete redesign that extended its wheelbase, added interior passenger and cargo volume, and reduced the truck’s weight by 450 pounds. Chevy also added several new engine options to extend the Silverado’s powertrain lineup for 2019 to include the 4.3-liter V6, 5.3-liter V8, 2.7-liter turbo, 6.2-liter V8, and 3.0-liter Turbo-Diesel. The 4.3-liter V6 engine, which is paired with the 6-speed automatic transmission, is the base powertrain and delivers 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque.

A 2019 Silverado that’s equipped with a 2.7-liter turbo engine is mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission to deliver 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque. If you’re looking for more power, keep an eye out for models with the 5.3-liter V8 engine under the hood. Offering either active or dynamic fuel management and paired with either the 6-speed or 8-speed automatic transmission, the 5.3-liter engines deliver 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque.

For diesel lovers, look for the 2019 Silverado (or newer year model) outfitted with the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel that’s paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The pairing delivers 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, which gives it enough pulling power to boost its capability when hauling heavy loads. In fact, the specs are so impressive for the 2019 Silverado that the truck beat the F-150 diesel across the board.

Other Considerations: Tech and Safety

One of the great things about shopping for a used Silverado 1500 or a Colorado is that you’ll enjoy a variety of connectivity and safety features in each model. Chevy’s commitment to innovation is undeniable on both models, which means you’ll find plenty of standard and available features across each lineup. Once you decide on the truck that best meets your performance, capability, and pricing needs, then you can narrow down your selection based on the features you want in a Chevy workhorse.

This begs the question, “How important is having the latest technology at your fingertips?” When you shop for newer models like the 2019 Silverado or the 2019 Colorado, you’ll find an even bigger suite of tools at your disposal than if you shop for older models like a 2014. Chevy’s redesign of the Silverado in 2019 added the next-generation Chevrolet Infotainment system with tools like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You can find the same technology on the Colorado’s 7-inch or 8-inch touchscreen display.

As far as safety, you’ll find the Silverado has a more extensive suite than the Colorado, which is to be expected considering the Colorado’s lower price. Aside from the standard airbags and rear vision camera, the Colorado also offers tools like a Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, and Rear Park Assist. These tools extend even further on the Silverado with enhanced features like Front and Rear Park Assist, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, a Following Distance Indicator, and Low-Speed Forward Automatic Braking.

Decisions, Decisions!

You’ve already made an exceptional choice the moment you decided to shop for a Chevrolet. Now, it’s time to choose between the Silverado 1500 and the Colorado. Are you looking for a powerful workhorse that can handle everything from your daily commute to towing the family camper? Or, do you need a truck that’s smaller and easier to maneuver? Either way, Chevy has you covered with the Silverado 1500 and the Colorado.

Chevy Silverado

A recent announcement from General Motors has confirmed that a new fully electric Chevy Silverado is scheduled to be released in 2023, and it will be one of 30 EVs GM promised to produce by 2025. A 2023 Silverado EV raises expectations of potential capability buyers may gain from the Ultium batteries, which will be the source of the new Silverado’s power. If the upcoming GMC Hummer EV is any indication of what the 2023 Silverado will be able to do, the results are likely to be impressive. As your Lexington Chevy Silverado dealer, we are excited about the future of automobiles, with GM heading up an ambitious plan to release another supertruck.

Despite the setbacks of the pandemic, GM has remained focused on moving forward with developments to manufacture the electric vehicles it scheduled for release. With the Ultium battery at its core, GM vehicles will gain a great deal of versatility in design potential with the slender, stackable battery packs, which provide more power in a smaller package. With the rebuilding of the old Detroit-Hamtramck plant in Southern Michigan, GM has indeed been busy preparing for the fresh lineup of fully electric vehicles. Using the Ultium battery promises to revolutionize the performance of vehicles like the Chevy Silverado, including the available range a vehicle can drive on a single charge.

The Future Chevy Silverado

Mark Reuss, president of GM, stated, “Chevrolet will take everything Chevy’s loyal truck buyers love about Silverado – and more – and put it into an electric pickup that will delight retail and commercial customers alike.” For truck lovers, this is good news. We love our trucks for their ability to tow, haul, and drive off-road. With a new electric platform, truck lovers can rest assured they will not lose any of the toughness or capability of the trucks we have come to rely on for work and play; if anything, they will only get more powerful.

If we look at the performance capability of the new Hummer EV, the torque and horsepower increase enormously with the Ultium battery’s power. The Hummer EV boasts up to 1,000 hp and a whopping 11,500 lb-ft of available torque, a number that sounds impossible to believe. Imagine what kind of power a Chevy Silverado EV could harness.

Because Chevy Silverado EVs will continue to be built for both personal and commercial use, Chevy will have you covered whether you drive a truck for off-roading or own a fleet for your business. Other performance-related factors like increased speed and driving range should further entice buyers to go electric with the new Silverado EV. Again, looking at the Hummer EV provides a view into speeds that could be astonishing, with the capability to go from zero to 60 in under four seconds – perhaps even as little as three.

The driving range of the Silverado EV, according to GM, is expected to be around 400 miles on a single charge. Even with the older EV platform found in the current Chevy Bolt EV, rapid charging times take 30 minutes for about 100 miles of range. With the Ultium battery, rapid charging times should drop to 100 miles of range in as little as ten minutes. Home installation of rapid charging stations will make driving an EV as seamless as charging your cell phone each night.

Photos of the Silverado EV prototype reveal little more than a front end without a grille and sides that share a similarity in appearance with the Chevy Avalanche. The truck appears to be full-sized, and all indications of it having the full capability of a Silverado are confirmed by GM. One thing is certain: the structure of the truck will be engineered around the battery platform. Without the need for all the mechanical parts of a gas or diesel engine, the Silverado EV platform will need to be redesigned to accommodate the difference in weight distribution.

All other details remain veiled until GM reveals more information. What buyers can expect in terms of technology promises to be inclusive, as is typical of most EVs, even with older platforms. With more power available from the Ultium battery, it’s likely that technology features will be heavily incorporated into the design to make driving easier, safer, and less fatiguing over long distances.

Ultium Power

What makes the Ultium battery different from current EV batteries? GM designed the battery packs to be assembled with materials sourced mostly from the US to make it easier to produce them in a US facility. The Ultium batteries utilize nickel, manganese, and aluminum, which are more readily available materials, and the use of cobalt is reduced by at least 50 percent compared to what has been needed for EV batteries in the past.

With the more accessible materials, production costs are lower, and the time it takes to build batteries is shorter. Plus, GM has built a facility in Ohio which assembles the batteries before they are transported to the new Factory ZERO plant in Michigan, further cutting down on costs for transport. All these cost and time reductions mean the batteries are less expensive to install and lower the cost of the vehicles they power. This is the crux of GM’s plan to make EVs more accessible to everyone.

Aside from the lower cost, the new design makes the Ultium battery a slender, stackable shape that can be placed flat like sheets of paper. Such flexibility in the number and placement that the new battery shape makes it easy to fit them into any vehicle, regardless of size or shape. Add to this flexibility the fact that the wiring normally seen on the outside of EV batteries is incorporated into the internal structure of the Ultium battery means they save even more space. The power output of just one Ultium battery is roughly equal to 20 of the “can” batteries used by some current EV models, which makes it possible to increase both performance and driving range for any vehicle tapped into its power.

Where Will the Chevy Silverado EV Be Built?

GM is in the process of completing a new facility called Factory ZERO, a manufacturing plant designed specifically to build electric vehicles. The first vehicle expected to be produced at Factory ZERO is the 2022 Hummer EV in the fall of 2021. Along with EVs for personal use, the factory is also likely to manufacture the Cruise Origin, a fully autonomous vehicle designed to be used as a taxi. The Chevy Silverado is scheduled for production in the next year or two at the same plant.

While GM retooled the old Detroit-Hamtramck plant to create Factory ZERO, the company designed the plant around sustainable car manufacturing. Factory ZERO will utilize renewable energy to power production, with the intention to be at 100 percent renewable energy by 2023. The promise to have all GM manufacturing operate on renewable energy worldwide by 2030 is part of GM’s plan to create a sustainable future.

In the process of rebuilding, the land surrounding Factory ZERO has been designated as a certified wildlife habitat that serves as a home to several native Michigan plants, insects, and animal species. With combined efforts to make batteries with more sustainable products, reduce the transportation of materials, and utilize renewable energy, GM is well on its way to building the infrastructure for a more earth-friendly manufacturing process. The internet of things adds to the shift in production to create quicker assembly and reduce costs, with Factory ZERO incorporating 5G connectivity to keep automation running smoothly.

Chevy Moves Into the Future

Such a wide scope of changes being orchestrated demonstrates a monumental effort on behalf of GM and Chevy to ensure electric vehicles are made available to all people through reduced costs that will make buying EVs more accessible. It is within this framework that the 2023 Chevy Silverado EV will be built for the masses, along with many more exciting EVs to come. We can’t wait until this exciting electric truck rolls into our Lexington showroom for you to get your hands on it.

Chevy Vehicle

Buying a certified pre-owned vehicle is the best way to get a great deal on pricing without sacrificing quality. You get the best of both worlds with a certified pre-owned car because you pay less than the price of a new vehicle, but a pre-owned vehicle is meticulously inspected, detailed, and repaired to look and feel like new. Here at Dan Cummins Chevy Buick Georgetown, we are your pre-owned Chevy dealer in Lexington, and we proudly offer exceptional Chevy vehicles in our certified pre-owned lineup.

The Rigorous Process for Certification

Every vehicle we sell as certified pre-owned – or CPO – must pass a rigorous set of standards to be included in the program. It begins with ensuring the vehicle is from a recent model year and has low mileage, so you know a CPO Chevy will always be less than six years old and have fewer than 75,000 miles on the odometer. We also check for a clean title and put the vehicle through a complete 172-point inspection. When you buy a CPO you get a free CARFAX vehicle history report to certify your Chevy has a clean history. We also check for any recalls and take care of any repairs necessary to make every Chevy safe and in good working order.

After inspection and repairs, our CPO vehicles are all carefully detailed inside and out so that they look their best. Buyers who purchase a CPO model gain a number of advantages over buying a traditional used or new vehicle. A CPO Chevy usually costs thousands less than a new vehicle, depending on the year of the model, which saves you money. But similar to a new vehicle, you get an excellent factory warranty that covers the powertrain for six years or 100,000 miles and includes roadside assistance with courtesy transportation if your CPO is in the shop. This warranty is even transferable if you choose to sell your CPO before the warranty runs out. Bumper-to-bumper coverage is also included for 12 months or 12,000 miles, and you are entitled to two complimentary scheduled maintenance visits in the first two years or 24,000 miles.

Chevy CPO vehicles offer buyers even more benefits, including a free three-month trial of OnStar Safety and Security and Connected Services. These programs include remote services, which can be accessed through an app on your phone or through the OnStar connection in your Chevy. A three-month trial of SiriusXM satellite radio comes with the purchase of a CPO as well, so you can enjoy listening to all your favorite stations anywhere you go in the country. Once all is said and done, if you don’t love your Chevy CPO, you can exchange it at no cost if you bring it back within three days or before you drive 150 miles.

Top Five Chevy Models to Consider

#1 – Chevy Silverado

When you need a truck that can work hard and play hard, the Silverado is the perfect match. Trucks can be expensive new, especially when adding on options from the long list of features and packages available. Chevy trucks have been dependable and tough for decades, and the Silverado has been a reliable work truck for both light-duty and heavy-duty hauling and towing since it hit the market in 1999.

Recent model years have incorporated all the technologies, conveniences, and comforts often found in luxury vehicles. If you need to take long trips towing a trailer or heading to a job, you’ll have everything you need. Options like heated seats, leather upholstery, and auto-dimming rearview mirrors are all available in the Silverado. Features to make towing simpler and safer can also be found, with trailer sway control and hitch camera views. Numerous engine choices, cab sizes, and box sizes mean the Chevy Silverado has countless variants.

#2 – Camaro

Buying a CPO Chevy Camaro means you would only find the sixth and most recent generation, which was revealed for the Camaro’s 50th anniversary year. Launched in 2016, the sixth-generation Camaro was sold with a choice of four engines. The most powerful engine is the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 found under the hood of the Camaro ZL1. This specially tuned engine can make up to 650 horsepower, delivering a true race car experience for driving enthusiasts.

The technology of the sixth-generation Camaro included Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, OnStar capability, and an eight-inch touchscreen for infotainment. Plush leather seats and a premium Bose sound system are options that take this classic car into the modern age while still holding onto those classic muscle car vibes. Performance-oriented options like Brembo brakes, a sport-tuned suspension, and a dual exhaust system can be found on upper trims, and the Camaro can be had as a coupe or convertible.

#3 – Tahoe

When you need a vehicle that seats nine, can tow a trailer, and offers a luxurious interior for ultimate comfort, the Chevy Tahoe is definitely for you. This large SUV features three rows of seating and a feature-laden interior with conveniences like an available rear-seat entertainment system and USB ports for charging in every row of seats. Available magnetic ride control gives the Tahoe’s ride quality the smoothness of a luxury vehicle in the cabin, and the EcoTec3 V8 engine in recent models is more fuel-efficient, so you spend less on gas.

The Tahoe comes standard with rear-wheel drive, and it can be optioned with all-wheel drive. Since 2017, Tahoe models came standard with Teen Driver and a Rear Seat Reminder as part of their safety features. Optional safety features like the safety alert seat, IntelliBeam automatic high beams, a head-up display, and forward collision alert were available in 2016 models. Fold-flat seating in the rear cargo area can be either manual or powered and expands to nearly 95 cubic feet.

#4 – Bolt EV

For drivers who prefer a fully electric vehicle, the Chevy Bolt EV went on sale starting in 2017 and had a driving range of approximately 238 miles. The driving range increased to 259 miles in 2020 models, and the battery can be fully recharged overnight using an easily installed Level 2 charger. The Bolt comes with a portable Level 1 charger that can be plugged into a standard household power outlet for simple recharging and extra peace of mind.

Even as a compact hatchback, the Bolt still has plenty of interior space to accommodate tall drivers in front and 16.9 cubic feet of cargo space in the rear. Features like a large 10.2-inch touchscreen make operating the infotainment a simple affair, while OnStar and a standard WiFi hotspot keep you connected anywhere you go. With a certified pre-owned Bolt EV, you can drive emissions-free and never visit a gas station again!

#5 – Equinox

The Chevy Equinox is considered a compact SUV, but it won’t feel compact on the inside. This comfortable vehicle is highly rated by parents as a family-friendly option with standard safety features like the Rear Seat Reminder and Teen Driver in recent models. The Equinox also maintains a high rating for reliability and dependability from year to year. Both second and third generations could be found as CPO models, with the most recent generation introduced in 2018. A number of engine options have been available over the years, which included diesel and V6 options, though more recent years have turbocharged four-cylinder engines. All-wheel drive has been available across the lineup.

Light towing is possible with the Equinox, and it can be fitted with roof rails for extra cargo capacity when traveling with bikes, boats, or skis. Technology like Chevy’s Infotainment 3 system will be found in 2019 and newer models, while a touchscreen of seven inches or larger will be found in any CPO models. Safety tech like front pedestrian braking and adaptive cruise control are options for upper trims in recent years.

Person getting out of a car

The thought of shopping for an older used car is enough to provoke anxiety and procrastination in even the calmest buyers. Scouring the lot at a local Lexington used car dealership to find a diamond in the rough doesn’t sound like a great way to spend an afternoon. What if we told you there’s a better – and more foolproof – way? And it doesn’t involve hours sitting in front of your computer.

The best advice we can give you is to carefully choose where you buy your vehicle. It’s always less risky to choose a respected dealership versus rolling the dice with a private seller or, even worse, opting for an impersonal national online dealer chain that uses algorithms to virtually match you with the right vehicle. Most of us aren’t quite ready to take delivery at an unstaffed vehicle vending machine.

Instead, turn to the best and most professional option: your local dealer. Sometimes the easiest solution is also the best one. Dealers take in hundreds of trades, one of which might be the perfect vehicle for you. There’s also the added comfort of knowing that if a used car is for sale on a dealer’s lot, it probably passed a pretty rigorous inspection.

If you’re shopping for an affordable vehicle that’s going to give you years of reliable transportation, follow our five tips to ensure you drive home with the best possible car for your money. You’ll be glad you did.

Tip #1: Know Your Budget

We highly recommend figuring out how much you can afford before you start shopping. Having a set budget keeps you focused and helps your sales consultant show you vehicles that match what you can afford. There’s nothing more frustrating than falling in love with a car that isn’t within your reach financially.

Save yourself the time and hassle and calculate your maximum monthly payment or, if you’re paying cash, know the top end of your price range and clearly communicate it to your sales consultant. Don’t forget to add local sales tax and any registration fees to your bottom line number.

Tip #2: It’s OK to Choose an Older Model

Believe it or not, there are plenty of older vehicles for sale with low mileage and minimal wear-and-tear. Even a ten-year-old vehicle can offer you great value without compromising reliability. It’s better to focus on your price range and then keep an open mind. Sure, an older vehicle won’t have as many modern tech features, but you’ll be more likely to find a fully-loaded, top-of-the-line option for the price of a low-end newer model year car with fewer bells and whistles.

This is where a great dealer can really help. Dealers not only take in trades, but they also purchase vehicles from auctions and other sources. Most dealers have an ear to the ground and can help buyers locate cars with specific criteria. Don’t be afraid to ask: just make sure you have a good idea of what you want.

Tip #3: Check the CARFAX History

Reputable dealers will provide you with a free CARFAX vehicle history report for any vehicle you’re considering purchasing, but if you try to go it alone, we highly recommend obtaining a CARFAX before pulling the trigger. Without it, you won’t know the vehicle’s history, and that’s a dangerous proposition that can lead to future headaches.

CARFAX reports will list any accidents or major repairs, as well as report flood or hail damage. If a vehicle has a salvage title, which means it was considered a total loss by an insurance company, the CARFAX report will tell you. It’s the vehicular equivalent of a human health history chart, and it’s vital for you to see it before you sign on the dotted line.

Tip #4: Read Older New Vehicle Reviews

This is an insider tip that true aficionados rely on to support their vehicle choice, and it’s one that will help you in a tiebreaker situation or even get you started thinking about the type of vehicle you want. The tip is, google the year, make, and model of the car you have your eye on and find third-party journalist reviews.

Sites like Car and Driver or Kelly Blue Book publish comprehensive new vehicle reviews, including long-term test drives, comparisons with other models, and personal impressions that help buyers discern the pros and cons of everything from fuel economy to ride characteristics. Even though you’re reading a review of the car from when it was new, it will still give you valuable, unbiased information you can use to help decide.

Tip #5: Consider an Extended Warranty

Aftermarket warranties sometimes get a bad rap, but actually, they can be a used car buyer’s best friend. The fact is, you’re buying an older car, so the factory warranty has likely expired. Your dealer has access to several different extended warranty programs to help cover major mechanical repairs on your used vehicle. It’s definitely worth considering purchasing one for peace of mind.

Extended warranties work like traditional factory warranties, except they’re designed primarily to cover major vehicle components, like the engine and the transmission. They come in a variety of coverage levels and terms, which your finance professional can explain in simple terms. They’re clear cut, usually underwritten by major insurance companies, and offer an easy process for filing claims.

Tip #6: Put Your Trust in a Sales Professional

We can’t emphasize this enough: find the right dealer partner. Even more specifically, align yourself with a sales consultant you like and get to know them on a first-name basis. It may take a while to find the exact vehicle you’re seeking. Isn’t the process so much easier knowing a professional has your back?

Your sales consultant can alert you the moment a vehicle arrives that might be a fit. You don’t have to scroll online classified sites endlessly, sending “is your car still available?” emails to strangers. Forget all that and single-source your purchase. Let a professional do the work for you, and you’ll end up with a high-quality vehicle at a price you can afford – without all the stress.

Find Yourself a Used Car

Buying an older used vehicle doesn’t mean compromising what’s important to you. You deserve to receive a reliable, high-quality car for your hard-earned dollars, which is why it matters who you buy from and where. Going it alone comes with a lot more risk, especially when the vehicle is approaching the 10-year-old mark.

There’s a better way, and it also happens to be simpler. When you buy from a trusted local dealer like Dan Cummins, you get a one-stop-shop for your purchase, financing, and all the necessary paperwork. You also have access to an array of aftermarket protection products designed to help you enjoy a stress-free ownership experience.

Why not let someone else do the hard work for you? It’s as simple as determining your budget, deciding on a vehicle type – or model – and asking your sales consultant to help you find a fit. Most dealers carry extensive used inventories, which means it’s likely that the perfect car is just sitting on the lot waiting for you. Simple is better almost always, and when it comes to buying a used car, the easier, the better.

Chevy Silverado 1500

The Chevy Silverado 1500 is a full-size pickup truck perfect for any adventure. This versatile truck offers plenty of configurations, options, and several powertrain choices as well. This just means that no matter what, you’ll be getting a Silverado that fits your lifestyle like a glove. Whether you will be using your Silverado for recreation, work, or everyday use, it will give you years of faithful and reliable service. But choosing the right Silverado 1500 isn’t going to be an easy task, especially considering the choices available for the model. Dan Cummins Chevrolet Buick of Georgetown, your local Lexington Chevy Silverado dealer, is here to help with all of your questions concerning the 2021 model.

What Is New for the 2021 Chevy Silverado?

The Silverado upped its game with one very exciting feature: the Multi-Flex Tailgate. For a few years, truck manufacturers have been working to create a tailgate that has more than one function. The Ram 1500 was one of the first to create a multifunction tailgate along with the GMC Sierra 1500. This new feature changed the game for those who needed something more out of their truck bed and are becoming a staple at construction sites and tailgate parties.

While Ram was one of the first to create a multi-use tailgate, it has only three variations, making GM’s system the superior choice for drivers looking to make the most out of their truck bed. The Multi-Flex Tailgate is a modern engineering masterpiece that can be configured and folded in six different positions depending on the preferred use. Owners of the Silverado can use the tailgate as a makeshift bed step, a workbench, a tailgate load stop, and more.

While it is big news, the addition of the Multi-Flex Tailgate isn’t the only new feature for the 2021 Silverado. The latest version of the Silverado also includes several towing features, including a new cargo bed view, a jack-knife alert, and improved towing capacities. Thanks to these additions, towing with a Chevy Silverado has never been easier or safer.

Lastly, the Chevy infotainment system in the Silverado now includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with wireless connection standard across all trims. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are lifelines that integrate your smartphone with the infotainment system. These two systems will allow you to access many features found on your smartphone almost seamlessly through your infotainment center. You are now able to utilize voice commands to play music, check text messages, and make phone calls; you can even access some of your favorite apps without having to take your eyes off of the road or your hands off of the steering wheel.

Which Engines Are Available?

Chevy allows you to equip your Silverado with one of six engines. While some engine options will only be available depending on the trim, no matter what, you are destined to get something incredible.

Your engine options are as follows:

  • 2.7L Turbocharged I-4
Produces 310 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque
  • 4.3L EcoTec3 V6
Produces 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque
  • 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 AFM
Produces 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque
  • 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 DFM
Produces 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque
  • 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 3.0L
Produces 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque
  • Duramax Turbo-Diesel I-6
Produces 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque

Which Trim Is Best?

The answer to this question is going to depend on what exactly you want to get out of your truck. One of the reasons why the Chevy Silverado remains one of the best-selling trucks year after year is because Chevy does a wonderful job offering diverse trim levels. If you are looking for a value trim, you get the biggest bang for your buck choosing the WT. Even though it is the base model, you still get a quality truck with plenty of desirable features, including a seven-inch color touchscreen, a rear vision camera, and Bluetooth capability.

LTZ

If you are shooting for the moon and want a truck that is as luxurious as it is tough and dependable, you really can’t go wrong with the LTZ trim. The Silverado LTZ is up to any challenge you throw at it, it gets the job done, and it gets it done while you enjoy the comfort and conveniences that Chevy has to offer.

At its heart, the Chevy Silverado is a work truck, so even with a luxury model, you will still get the features you need to ensure that the truck can complete the task at hand. As such, the LTZ trim can include an advanced trailering system with a bed view camera and two trailer view camera provisions. These features ensure your Silverado is ready to complete everyday challenges.

The comfort and convenience features in the LTZ trim will have you thinking you are driving a luxury sedan. Slide behind the wheel of a Chevy Silverado LTZ and feel the quality of the heated and ventilated leather-appointed seats and the option of adding an 8-inch infotainment system with navigation. There are also plenty of safety features in this model including, front and rear park assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane change alert.

High Country

The High Country trim is where performance meets functionality and is considered the pinnacle of the Silverado lineup. Whatever you like in a truck is probably available at this trim level. On the exterior, you get 20-inch painted aluminum machined-face wheels, a dual-outlet exhaust, body-color bumpers, and six-inch chrome rectangular wheel to wheel assist steps.

Inside the Silverado High Country, you get to enjoy an eight-inch digital driver information center, a Bose premium sound system, leather-trimmed perforated seats, and wireless device charging. A few other goodies you get at this trim level include a connected navigation system, spray-on bed liner, and chrome recovery hooks.

So which high-level trim is right for you? Well, that depends on which features are most important to you. But we will say this; no matter which premium trim you choose, there isn’t a wrong choice.

Buick Enclave

Performance, versatility, and reliability weren’t as harmoniously matched in the early 20th century as they are today. Things changed for the better when SUVs began appearing at a rapid pace throughout the late 1990s through the 2000s, and one of the manufacturers leading the charge was Buick. To some drivers, the Buick Enclave may still be considered a newer model lineup in the grand scheme of things, but in reality, it’s a model that spans back to the year 2007 with the release of the 2008 Enclave. There have been numerous success stories throughout Buick’s existence, but the Enclave’s evolution is perhaps the most fascinating. If you’re looking for used Buick dealerships in KY to check out models such as the Enclave, visit us at Dan Cummins Chevrolet Buick of Georgetown.

As we mentioned prior, the 2008 model marked the first time the Enclave would grace the market. At this time, Buick wasn’t shying away from ensuring that the Enclave was the go-to SUV for any driver who valued luxury and performance, amongst other things. For the time, the Enclave featured everything that you would want in an SUV, including an ample powertrain configuration, along with extraordinary amounts of cargo space. Of course, the automotive industry doesn’t slow down, and Buick has brought the Enclave along for the ride ever since its debut. Today, we have the 2021 Enclave, and the changes that have been made have mostly been for the better. Let’s take a closer look at how the Enclave has evolved, and let’s see if the Enclave is worth your consideration.

Has Performance Improved?

The 2021 Enclave does produce greater performance than the 2008 model, but this is to be expected from a newer variant. Most importantly, it’s worth considering that the 2008 Enclave was an exemplary performer for its day, and this leads to its specifications often beating out modern-day SUVs that are found at a greater price in new condition. Both the 2008 and 2021 Enclaves utilize a 3.6L V6, and while they’re identical in size, these two models demonstrate just how far engine technology has progressed.

With the 2008 Enclave, the V6 engine produced 275 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque, and the engine came paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. In comparison, the 2021 Enclave’s V6 produces 310 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque and comes paired with a much more ideal 9-speed automatic transmission. Sure, this increase in horsepower and torque may not sound like much, but this also means that the 2021 Enclave can tow approximately 500 lbs more than the original model, with a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 lbs instead of 4,500 lbs.

Another piece of the powertrain’s job has been improved upon, and that’s fuel efficiency. The EPA-estimated ratings that both of these vehicles receive will differ between FWD and AWD configurations, but the 2021 model always comes out on top. The 2008 Enclave does hold up nicely with 16 MPG city and 24 MPG highway for FWD models and 16 MPG city and 22 MPG highway with AWD. On the other hand, the 2021 model can do 18 MPG city and 26 MPG highway with FWD and 17 MPG city and 25 MPG highway with AWD. Overall, the changes that have been made to the Enclave’s powertrain have certainly been evolutionary. This is a huge win for those in the used market as the Enclave is always guaranteed to be a fantastic performer.

Interior Differences

The interiors of these vehicles have seen the most change, but also the least at the same time. Both the 2008 and 2021 Enclave come standard with a maximum seating capacity of seven passengers. However, only with the 2008 Enclave can you adjust your seating arrangement to allow for eight passengers, unlike the 2021 model. The size of the interior itself has gone through some changes from slight to drastic. Not too much has changed regarding the cabin’s dimensions other than a bump in overall front-row headroom from 40.4-inches to 41-inches and a minimal decrease in legroom from 41.3-inches on the 2008 model to 41.2-inches on the 2021 Enclave.

To understand the most drastic change between these two models, then look no further than the maximum available cargo space that each one contains. Starting with the new 2021 Enclave, one of the selling points is its 97.6 cu.ft. of available space, but this is far less than the 2008 Enclave’s 116.2 cu.ft. of available space. There is good news, and it’s that every Enclave still offers plenty of cargo space as 97.6 cu.ft. is still a generous amount for most drivers and makes any Enclave model the perfect companion for vacations.

Tech features have come a long way since the Enclave’s release, and stacking the first model to the most recent one shows exactly how this has happened. The 2008 Enclave comes with the features that you would expect from a vehicle of that era, including a CD player with MP3 controls and even an available navigation system, which was not always commonplace at that time. Stepping up to the modern-day Enclave, and you have a drastically different setup, albeit built on the same foundation as those media centers found in older models such as the 2008 model.

Nowadays, the 2021 Enclave sports an infotainment center with an 8-inch touchscreen, a feature that simply didn’t exist at the time of the 2008 model’s release. Back when the original Enclave was released, smartphones were in their infancy and not utilized by a vast majority of the population. This has changed over time, and vehicles released in the past several years reflect this the best, including the 2021 Enclave. Each Enclave supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which were also not available in 2008, and were several years down the line from release.

Past, Present, and Future

All things considered, the Enclave is the perfect example of a manufacturer committing to a model and improving upon it over time to make it the best version it can be for the current customer. It’s not every day when a new model nearly fifteen years down the line is still trying to outpace its very first model, and it’s simply extraordinary. Buick may produce and sell a variety of different SUVs and crossovers, but the Enclave is still the fan favorite for a multitude of reasons. The Enclave and the Enclave Avenir currently sit at the top of Buick’s lineup, but they aren’t the only two models by Buick that deserve your attention. To learn more about what Buick SUV works best for you, then come visit Dan Cummins Chevrolet Buick of Georgetown to get started.

Electric Vehicle

If you’re in the market for a new car, have you considered taking a look at an electric vehicle? Electric vehicles have only been on the market for a short time, but they have already taken the world by storm. Rather than going with a hybrid or a more traditional gas-guzzling vehicle, ask your electric car dealership to hook you up with a vehicle that will not only save you money on gasoline but will also have you feeling good about your positive effect on the environment.

What are Electric Vehicles and Why Do You Want One?

True to the name, an electric vehicle is a vehicle that runs fully off of electricity. No gasoline, diesel fuel, hydrogen, or anything else is needed to run an EV. Instead, to charge up your engine, just plug your vehicle into a compatible charging port. Before you know it, you’ll be on your way, ready to drive wherever the road may take you. Electric cars are cheaper to operate, more convenient, and offer better performance than most traditional vehicles.

Current Available Electric Vehicles

There are several options for electric vehicles these days, and in the coming years, those options are only going to expand. Many automobile manufacturers have begun to offer EV lineups, but in our opinion, GM has some of the best electric vehicles on the market. Chevrolet, in particular, has revolutionized the electric vehicle industry with the Chevy Bolt EV. This cute little hatchback runs off of nothing but electricity, saving drivers all over the world thousands of dollars on gasoline every single year. Even though the Bolt looks small, it packs quite a punch with 200 horsepower and a range of 259 miles on a full charge.

While you can get an affordable supercharging at one of the 4,400 public DC fast-charging stations scattered throughout the U.S., Chevrolet has also made the option of charging the Bolt at home even more user-friendly. You have the option of using either a 120-volt or a 240-volt power outlet from the comfort of your own home. Improved charging units are easily installed by any professional and allow you to charge your EV easily while you’re sleeping or just hanging out at home.

The 2022 Chevy Bolt EV starts at just $31,995, making the savings even more accessible for the average driver. This electric vehicle even comes standard with all the best interior technologies and safety features that discerning drivers have become accustomed to. In fact, the 2021 Bolt EV has earned a 5-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. With stats like this, it’s no wonder why Chevrolet is one of the best electric vehicle manufacturers in the U.S.

Future Chevy EVs We Can Expect

In the foreseeable future, Chevrolet has some pretty exciting electric vehicles come up. First, of course, we have the upgraded 2022 Chevy Bolt EV. This already amazing vehicle has seen a complete redesign for 2022. It still offers drivers a range of 259 miles on a full charge, but it now has improved looks, more standard features, and a few new options that make driving and owning an electric vehicle easier than ever.

But Chevrolet isn’t stopping at just a new Bolt EV. There is also an all-new electric SUV for 2022, known as the Chevy Bolt EUV. Just like the Bolt EV, the Bolt EUV will have the option of being charged using public DC fast-charging stations or with charging stations installed at your home. Drivers will be able to charge the EUV with a standard 120-volt outlet, or they can hire a professional to upgrade their garage with a 240-volt charger that will charge the EUV even faster.

Chevrolet is planning to cover the installation of level 2 charging stations in the homes of eligible 2022 Bolt EV and 2022 Bolt EUV drivers. This is great news because an already affordable and environmentally friendly vehicle is now becoming even more affordable. Ask Dan Cummins, your electric car dealership, for more information on how to qualify for this service.

One of the most exciting features about the new 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV is what’s known as Super Cruise. Super Cruise is an all-new technology that allows your vehicle to drive itself! Using a sophisticated LiDAR Mapping technology, when you drive on one of the 200,000-plus miles of compatible roads in North America, you can sit back, relax, and let your Bolt EUV take the wheel for you, hands-free. This Super Cruise technology is the next step towards the everyday American owning a self-driving vehicle, and it sure is impressive.

The Bolt EUV uses the LiDAR mapping technology to know every twist and turn of the upcoming road, and in conjunction with adaptive cruise control, your vehicle can read the traffic around you so that you are always traveling at a safe and appropriate speed for the conditions. Nothing makes a road trip more enjoyable than being able to stretch out and relax, and now, thanks to the 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV, this is possible even for the driver.

While the Super Cruise technology is currently only available with the 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV and not the Chevy Bolt EV, there are other technologies that each EV will share. For instance, the one-pedal driving feature allows you to save energy by speeding up and slowing down all with the press or lift of a single pedal. You can also engage maximum regenerative braking whenever you want by pulling the regen on demand paddle mounted on the steering wheel.

Chevy isn’t the only GM brand forging ahead with electric vehicles, and we expect Buick to join the EV market sometime in the 2020s. Buick has already unveiled the futuristic Buick Electra concept car, which comes with butterfly wing doors and a range of more than 400 miles on a single charge. While we don’t expect the Batmobile doors to make it to the eventual production model (though we can always hope!), the long range is probably realistic.

This sort of range is thanks to GM’s new Ultium battery technology, which promises to revolutionize what electric vehicles are capable of. This kind of range is absolutely incredible, and when you consider the fact that Buick is already considered a quality luxury vehicle manufacturer, we know we can expect big things from its future electric vehicle.

Silverado

Shopping for a used truck can be a lot of fun: you have a tremendous amount of freedom with the used market. It’s important to pick a good used Chevy dealer in KY that you can trust, however, to ensure you get a great vehicle that’s in excellent condition. As long as you have a dealership that you know has your best interests at heart, then you can focus on getting the right features and options in your vehicle. This doesn’t have to be difficult, but it does mean you should keep some things in mind as you shop.

Today, we’re going to take you through some of the most important things to consider and look at as you’re shopping for a used Chevy Silverado. We can’t tell you exactly what you need – that really depends on your specific situation – but we can give you some general advice. With these things in mind, it will be easy for you to look at models available to you and decide on if they’re right for you or not. Of course, the easiest way to find just the right used Silverado is to have one of our knowledgeable and friendly salespeople by your side to help you.

#1 – The Engine

As you’re shopping for a Silverado, the engine is a great place to start because so many other aspects of the truck really depend on it. We often tell our customers to think of the engine as the heart of the vehicle; it needs to be strong and reliable to keep your truck going. And with an impressive workhorse like the Chevy Silverado, a great engine is very important.

While every Silverado has an excellent engine, there is a substantial amount of variety in terms of the engines inside these vehicles. Right now, for example, if you look at a brand-new Silverado, you can see six different engines to choose from – models from the previous generation (more on that below) had a similar number of options. That means that when you’re shopping for a Silverado, you can find a lot of different engines.

So it’s important that you know what you need. The simple decision of if you want a diesel engine or a standard gas engine will make truck shopping a lot easier. Beyond that, you should consider how much power you need and what kind of transmission you want. Unless you go way back, you’re going to find an automatic transmission, but you can find 6-speed, 8-speed, and 10-speed transmissions all available.

#2 – The Trim Level

It’s easy to think of the trim as only being about luxury features and options. In reality, however, with the Chevy Silverado, the trim often dictates a lot of different features that have been available over the years. Looking at used Silverado models from 2010, for example, we can see that the LT and SLE trims had access to an impressive 6.2L V8 engine, while the standard WT trim did not.

So, as you’re looking at different used Silverado models, you can make the process a lot easier on yourself by deciding if you need a higher trim. Since there have been a lot of options available, however, this is definitely an area where having someone by your side while shopping can simplify things. But if you know you want the performance and luxury of the highest trim for the years you’re interested in; then this can quickly eliminate models that won’t work for you.

#3 – Model Year (Generation)

Speaking of different model years, one of the most important things to keep in mind is the model year of any used Silverado you are considering. The generation of the vehicle will have a major impact on the kinds of features, options, and engines that were available for any given Silverado – and the model year can provide additional insight. Really, this comes down to getting rid of models that won’t work for you, so you can focus on ones that will.

We suggest going back no further than the 2007 model year, which started the second generation for the Chevy Silverado. For more modern features, focus on models from 2014 to 2018, which was the third generation of the Silverado. If you want the latest and greatest, then the most recent generation started with 2019 models, but these are going to cost more than older ones. It really comes down to your budget, the features and power you want, and how you can get everything that you need.

#4 – Towing and Payload Capacities

Half the fun of owning a truck is being able to load it up with everything you need or haul a trailer or boat behind it. But even if you look at two Silverado models that seem identical from the outside, they can have very different capabilities due to their engines and other factors. Before you do any shopping, figure out what your requirements are: be generous and keep in mind it’s better to have more muscle than you need rather than find yourself in a tight spot.

More powerful engines typically offer greater towing capacity, and these capabilities tend to improve from one generation to the next. So, if you have some serious towing needs with your Silverado, look for recent models with powerful V8 engines or even diesel engines. Always look at the specific capacities for any particular truck you’re interested in since similar models can still vary based on other factors.

#5 – The Configuration

As you look at different Silverado models, you should also consider what configuration will work best for you. For the last few generations, the Silverado has been available with a regular cab, larger extended cab, or a crew cab for maximum interior space. Three different bed lengths have also been offered: just under 6-foot, 6-and-a-half-foot, and an 8-foot bed. There are some limitations on combining these options, however, so it’s important to find the right configuration that meets your needs.

#6 – The Interior

It can be easy to think of interior options for comfort and technology as little more than luxuries that don’t really matter, but that’s a mistake. Your comfort in your truck, especially if you spend a lot of time on the road, is very important and really makes a big difference in getting the most out of your pickup. Plus, impressive tech features can help you stay in touch with others while on the job, make towing easier, and assist with navigation to get you where you need to go.

#7 – Safety Features

These might not be the first things you look at when shopping for a Silverado, but don’t overlook them. The safety features in a truck really can make a difference in your driving experience when it comes to protecting you and others on the road. Nothing can replace safe, careful driving, but modern safety systems and features can help improve your own abilities and make it easier to avoid a collision. If you have a young driver who’s going to be learning to drive with your truck, then look for a recent model with Chevy’s Teen Driver system to help encourage safe, responsible behavior.

We Make Shopping for a Used Silverado Easy

To be honest, even with everything we’ve discussed, there are plenty more things to look for and consider when shopping at your used Chevy dealer in KY. That’s why our salespeople are trained to work closely with all of our customers and help ensure you get everything you need. Give us a call or come visit us to find out more and discover how simple it can be to shop for a used Silverado when you have the right person by your side.

Chevy EUV

The Model T gave the average American the opportunity to own something once seen as a toy for the rich. It was crude by modern standards and confusing to those people who had the chance to drive it. Remember, this was back when many people were still used to riding horses and needed to be trained to drive this new contraption that was suddenly made much more affordable through the pioneering spirit of Detroit. In one account, a driving teacher who was demonstrating the use of a Model T to a local farmer found themselves in a ditch a few miles down the road. As it turns out, pulling on the steering wheel and yelling “whoa!” could not persuade the vehicle to slow down… Yes, the story of the car in America has had some interesting bumps in the road. While it was Ford that put America on wheels, it’s Chevy’s electric vehicles that will move us all forward.

Looking to the Future

Chevy offers the most affordable American electric vehicle lineup, featuring the Bolt, and in 2022, will introduce the Bolt EUV. EUV stands for Electric Utility Vehicle and offers buyers the opportunity to get an electric vehicle in the body style bought most often by consumers. The crossover has long since replaced the sedan as the vehicle of choice for families since it offers the space of an SUV with the size and driving dynamics of contemporary cars. The Bolt EUV offers buyers something familiar in terms of how the vehicle is laid out.

Many controls still make use of buttons and knobs for things like the headlights and air conditioning controls. These are easy to use without the need to hunt through menus on a touchscreen. Speaking of that screen, however, for those who enjoy their infotainment, the new EUV offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Also included is the ability to charge your phone wirelessly by placing it on a special pad underneath the touchscreen display. This would mean that, in effect, the only thing one would have to plug in to use the car is Bolt EUV itself.

Leading the Charge

Chevy believes that charging an electric vehicle should take no more thought in your average day than plugging in your phone just before going to bed. To that end, Chevy offers the new Dual Level Charging Cord. With this innovation in charging technology, one can choose between Level 1 and Level 2 capability with the change of a plug type. Level 1 uses your standard house power and is the perfect way to top off your car using nothing but the portable cable offered with the car itself. It allows you to get 4 miles with one hour of charge. While not recommended for one who plans to use an EV to drive every day, it is a useful tool to ensure you’re never far from the power you need.

Level 2 steps up your charging current to two hundred and forty volts. In as little as two hours, one could cover a distance of 40 miles. You would have to get a Level 2 unit installed in your home, but thanks to Chevy’s partnership with Qmerit, you could potentially have one installed for free. Also offered, similar to gas stations, are EV charging stations across the United States that use what’s called DC Fast Charging. In only 30 minutes, you can get up to 100 miles of charge using this. The Chevy EUV offers an illuminated charging port to assist in its use.

Everyday Driving

Learning to live with the Chevy Bolt EUV is made easy with the features offered in this unique vehicle. For example, it offers something called Regenerative Braking (or ReGen for short) and allows the driver to use the inertia of the car slowing down to pump a small amount of power back into the battery pack and extend your range. With the pull of a paddle located just behind the steering wheel, the driver can make their drive that much more efficient and even bring the car to a complete stop without ever touching the brake pedal. With One Pedal Driving turned on, you can control the Bolt EUV with only the accelerator pedal, speeding up and slowing down with the motion of a single foot. Using the Energy Assist feature offered by Chevy, you can use your phone to plan the most efficient route to get the most out of your new EV.

A feature found on the top trim of this make is called Super Cruise. This feature allows for something once thought of as the domain of only the most expensive electric vehicles, the ability for the car to drive itself. That is to say, while you are sitting in the driver’s seat on a compatible road, you can take your hands and feet off the controls, and the car will continue on the route you’ve set while adapting to conditions on the road like the following distance between cars.

The 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV isn’t all about making miles, though. It also offers seating for up to five, plus room for cargo, and is available with both heated and ventilated seats. For an amazing view above, Chevy offers the top trim, the Premier, with a panoramic sunroof, giving you an unbroken view of the sky from front to back. Speaking of views, Chevy offers a backup camera built right into the rearview mirror housing. This allows for the driver to get a perfect view of what’s behind them without needing to check both a mirror and a separate screen to make sure they know what’s around them.

No Power Without Safety

The Chevy EUV gives you peace of mind with a bevy of safety features to make sure you arrive at your destination in comfort. This package, offered at no extra charge, is called Chevy Safety Assist and can be found on their whole lineup of cars. Using technology like Lane Keep Assist and Automatic Emergency Braking, you can be assured that this EV is one of the safest cars on the road.

An EV for the Rest Of Us

The days of the horseless carriage are long behind us. Those days when one operated their car with not a steering wheel, but a tiller. Those days when one was at risk of breaking an arm by attempting to start their car with a hand crank. The story of the American automobile is littered with leaps forward in technology that brings us closer to our modern day.

The electric car is not a new invention by any means, but until just a few years ago, they were seen as a plaything to be owned only by those with the deep pockets to afford them. The same could be said of the early adopters of the gasoline-powered car itself. The Chevy Bolt and new Bolt EUV are one step closer to putting America and the entire world on electrified wheels. With simple to use controls, a comfortable and thoughtfully designed cabin, and industry-leading technology at a price point we can get behind, the real question remains – when do you make the switch?

All car manufacturers will redirect focus or discontinue models from time to time. This is all part of keeping up with the changing tastes and demands of the car-buying public. For some very savvy buyers, there is an understanding that such discontinued cars, trucks, and SUVs are still great vehicles, and the decision to stop building them had more to do with popularity than the intrinsic value of the vehicle. These buyers know that they can get a great deal on a used vehicle, particularly if it is one where production was discontinued or if a new generation of the model has recently made its debut. If you stop into our Lexington used Buick dealership, you are going to find a great deal on a used Buick model, providing you with some serious bang for your buck.

Buick recently changed its corporate focus to concentrate solely on developing, manufacturing, and marketing luxury SUVs. The goal is to make Buick the premier domestic luxury SUV brand. However, this decision presents you with a great opportunity to get a used Buick car or SUV at an amazing price. That is because, at Dan Cummins Chevrolet Buick of Georgetown, we have one of the largest inventories of used Buick cars and SUVs in the area, giving you the ability to find one that fits your lifestyle and budget perfectly.

The Current Buick Lineup

Starting in 2021, Buick reduced its lineup to three principal vehicles, all of which are SUVs. The Buick Encore is a subcompact SUV, the Buick Envision is a compact SUV, and the Buick Enclave is a midsize SUV, so you have all the key sizes covered. In addition, Buick offers the Encore GX, which is slightly larger than the standard Encore. These SUVs can be found with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and have room for five or more passengers. All of these models have been out for a few years now and are available on the used SUV market,

If you look at the Encore or Encore GX, you will have a choice of three great engines, as well as several different trim levels. The base model Encore has a 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder gas engine, while the Encore GX and Encore GX ST have smaller but more powerful engines: an EcoTec 1.2-liter Turbo and an EcoTec 1.3-liter Turbo, respectively. Each model of the Encore offers great fuel economy as well as plenty of luxury features, including the Buick Infotainment system on an 8-inch color touchscreen.

You may be able to find a great deal on a used Buick Envision from 2020 or earlier. That is because Buick launched a fully redesigned Envision for the 2021 model year. Whenever this happens, models from the prior generation will often drop in price. With the 2020 Envision, you get a choice of either a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine or a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder gas engine. The Turbo will give you generally better acceleration, while the 2.5-liter engine provides better gas mileage. The Envision is incredibly roomy for a compact SUV. For example, it has plenty of trunk space, a full 26.9 cubic feet that can be expanded to 57.3 cubic feet by simply folding down the rear row of seats.

Sometimes you need more passenger space, and this is where a used Buick Enclave comes into play. The Enclave has three rows of seats with plenty of room for up to seven passengers. If you are looking at a 2018 or later used Enclave, you will get an exceptional 3.6-liter V-6 gas engine paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. This can produce up to 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque while delivering a solid fuel economy of 18 miles per gallon in city driving and 26 miles per gallon on the highway. The Enclave also offers plenty of cargo space – up to 97.6 cubic feet when both the second and third rows of seats are folded down.

Five Great Discontinued Buick Models

As we pointed out earlier, Buick recently decided to focus exclusively on luxury SUVs. As a result, it began to phase out certain models beginning in 2019. The first two to go were the LaCrosse and the Cascada. However, you can still find great models of both cars for sale in the used market.

The Buick LaCrosse is a full-size premium sedan with plenty of luxury features. This includes the Buick Infotainment system with an 8-speaker sound system, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, and heated side mirrors. Some models even have leather interiors and an 11-speaker Bose premium surround-sound system. The 2019 model, which was the last produced, offered the choice of a very fuel-efficient 2.5-liter I-4 engine with eAssist and a powerful 3.6-liter V-6 engine. The models with the V-6 engine also had the option of all-wheel drive instead of the standard front-wheel drive. Buying a used Buick LaCrosse will give you the ability to get great luxury at an affordable price.

The Buick Cascada is a luxury convertible model that comes equipped with a 1.6-liter Turbo I-4 gas engine. It features many premium items, such as Rear Park Assist, heat-reflective leather upholstery, and heated seats and steering wheel. If you ever wanted a premium luxury convertible but had a serious case of sticker shock, a used Cascada could be the model for you.

The final three models that were cut from the roster in 2020 all were based around the Buick Regal midsize sedan design. The Regal Sportback is the basic model with a standard 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 gas engine. This model gets great fuel economy while not sacrificing performance. It is also equipped with the Buick Infotainment system with an 8-inch color touchscreen and all the popular features you would expect, such as Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The Regal GS is a sportier version of the Regal with a larger engine and standard all-wheel drive. The 2019 and 2020 Regal GS models come with a 3.6-liter V-6 gas engine.

Finally, the Regal TourX is a crossover wagon built on the Regal frame. It features the same 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gas engine but standard all-wheel drive and plenty of trunk space. There are 32.7 cubic feet of space in the Regal TourX’s trunk that can be expanded to 73.5 cubic feet with the rear seat folded down. This is a great choice for someone who wants the roominess and versatility of an SUV but is more comfortable driving a sedan.

Buick may not be manufacturing these five great cars, but that doesn’t mean you should miss out on them. You are sure to find a used LaCrosse, Cascada, Regal Sportback, Regal GS, or Regal TourX in the trim level and with the options you want on the used car market, giving you the opportunity to get a great car at an even better price.

The Benefits of Buying Used

There is no better deal than the one you will get when you buy a used car. This is especially so when buying a luxury vehicle like a used Buick car or SUV. That is for a number of reasons. First, vehicles will often lose up to half their value in the first few years of ownership due to depreciation. However, this does not mean there is anything wrong with the car. Second, discontinued vehicles like the Buick LaCrosse and Buick Regal TourX, or ones from an earlier generation like a pre-2020 Buick Envision, will see their used prices drop as a result of corporate decisions to come out with a new generation or discontinue a model. Again, this does not have anything to do with the actual value of the car to you. As a result, you can get a great deal on one of these used Buicks. Stop by our dealership today and let us show you why your next vehicle should be a used Buick luxury car or SUV.
